Meet Your Engagement Pastors - Evan Harrison, Parish A

Meet Evan Harrison

Evan Harrison loves pastoring Pittsboro Presbyterian Church, where he has served since March, 2019. He and his college sweetheart, Emily, are delighted to be back in the Piedmont after spending time in Kentucky, Connecticut, and eastern NC. When not churching, Evan may tinker with fountain pens or go play music for impromptu dance parties with Emily and their two kids. If every available food must fit on a six-sided die, four of those sides should include pizza, nachos, veggies and chocolate.

Deep Salem Presbytery Roots

Evan grew up attending First Presbyterian Church in Burlington. In the early 2000s, he went through the Inquirer and Candidate process with our Committee on Preparation for Ministry. Now, as an Engagement Pastor, he connects congregations in various ways, such as the Presbytery-wide catered Picnic & Talent Show 10am-noon Aug. 21st at Bethany Presbyterian's Recreation Area in Graham. Meeting new people and hearing what God's doing through sister churches can awaken new spiritual energy and imagination!

Seeing the Gospel Come Alive

Evan loves watching the gospel come alive in himself and others—both individually and at the congregation, community and presbytery levels. One sabbatical he enjoyed capturing some of these “Sacred Stories” on YouTube. He says, "The presbytery is more than a meeting…it's God at work in thousands of ways. Let’s share these stories and rediscover how we are all small but important parts of something much larger!"

Reading Recommendations

Evan highly recommends reading or listening to Howard Owen’s Willie Black mystery series, Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste, Resmaa Menakem’s My Grandmother’s Hands, and Richard Rohr’s Universal Christ.

Campus Ministries - UKirk Sunday Special Offering

The Campus Ministry Committee of Salem Presbytery invites and encourages congregations within our Presbytery to participate in the first annual UKirk Sunday Special Offering on August 8th. In these increasingly lean times, your financial support is vital to the health, success, and growth of campus ministry in our Presbytery and beyond.

From the Salem Presbytery EQUIP Team
Returning to Normal: What Is That?

As we began talking about returning to in person ministry, I heard many people say, "I just want to get back to normal." I wondered and sometimes asked out loud, "What is normal after all of this?"

I look around and everything I see, looks normal. The trees bloomed and turned green, causing my typical spring allergies. The weather is warm (and humid) again. The birds are nesting and singing in the morning. Our church building is still standing and still in need of maintenance. My office is still cluttered (a sign of a creative mind, I like to think) and my calendar is full.

So I wonder, is everything "normal?"
