Javier Sarmiento Jr., Guttman β19, is an award-winning journalist who aspires to improve circumstances for people in his Harlem community. Sarmiento is also a first-gen college student and the recipient of a record-breaking 13 scholarships! How did he do it? Through savvy use of web resources and participation in groups including Guttman's United Men of Color, the Black Student Union, the National Association for Black Journalists and the National Association for Hispanic Journalists.
