Celebrate National Library Week at Your Library

Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and ebooks. But there's so much more to the story of libraries. Winnefox Library Systems encourages all community members to visit their local library during National Library Week to explore all they have to offer.

Libraries are welcoming spaces that bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, lectures, and more. Winnefox member libraries offer a wide array of programs, classes and resources. Our libraries play a critical role in the economic vitality of communities by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs.

If you haven't checked out your neighborhood library lately, you're missing the full story. Stop by your library for a visit to celebrate with them during National Library Week, April 23-29.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.

The Magic of Omro Public Library

The Carter Memorial Library in Omro continues to support lifelong learning for all ages. Staff recently attended a Magic-themed Literacy Night for the Omro School District. Children received a treat and got to make a craft project together.

The library gave away nearly 150 to students while connecting with families from around the community.

Egg-citing times at Princeton Public Library

Princeton Public Library visitors of all ages have been learning about the lifecycle from egg to chicken at the library's Incubation Station, featuring lots of information on chickens and books to check out. The recently hatched chicks continue to hang out at the library, making egg-cellent employees, until they flock to their forever homes. Visitors can meet them at an upcoming Backyard Chickens class on April 20.

Building Community in Green Lake County

Each year the Berlin, Green Lake, Kingston, and Princeton public libraries come together to promote community conversation through the Green Lake County Reads program. This spring, inspired by the books A Drop of Hope by Keith Calabrese and The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride by Joe Siple, Green Lake County Reads hosted a fantastic event on April 15 with Krista Sobieski from Unimaginable Hope.

The tragic passing of both of her parents, on the same day from unrelated causes, inspired Krista’s work and Unimaginable Hope.  Through the process of grieving the loss and a community surrounding their family, Krista learned about all the many ways her parents spent their lives striving to help, to serve, to care, and to do a world of good for the people in their lives.

Krista and the Reads titles all demonstrate ways to build, create, and change communities for the better. There are so many ways that we can care for each other, do good, and make wishes come true that we should celebrate and encourage the stories and examples that help remind us to keep making a difference. Sometimes it’s reading and sharing those stories that makes all the difference in the world.

There’s still time to read the inspiring Green Lake County Reads titles! Find them at your local library or place a hold for A Drop of Hope or The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride to have them sent to the library nearest you.
