Marcie Miller for a talk on the first Don of San Rafael, Timothy Murphy. He was truly a founding father in our history. He spoke the native language with an Irish Brogue. At 6 foot 4 inches and 350 pounds he was always the defender of the native people.

These were the days of Kit Carson, General Fremont, Bull vs. Bear fights and the agricultural farming established by the Mission padres, especially the Mission Pears to finally the stabilizing of our town. San Rafael has always been the corner stone of the Mission town we call San Rafael.

Starting from in front of Mission San Rafael we will present an educational talk about what it was like in the early days of San Rafael. Timothy Murphy, the Irishman who became a naturalized Mexican citizen and administrator of the Mission lands.... and who enjoyed being called "Don Timoteo". We will end outside the Mission to imagine the view from the steps of St Raphael's to the San Rafael Creek which came all the way up to the edge of B St.
