Faith Without Works Is Dead
James 2: 14-17
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
We have all been part of conversations where someone or a group, collectively, had big thoughts which led to big ideas. A brilliant project or event was conceived! Everybody high-fives each other and leaves feeling really good about what happened in that room. Everyone feels inspired! The problem is: most times at a follow-up meeting, nothing if not much action items have actually been completed. This typically happens several times and the end product is a lot less magnificent than it was dreamed up and projected to be, at the hour the vision was first hatched. Then a lot of "wish it would've/could've been"s follow, with the promise that it will be better next time.
WHY IS THIS?
What Happened? Human Nature. No more no less. Time became a constraint. Resources never materialized. It's a lot easier to have a good idea (even easier to agree with one!) than to follow through with the two most valuable indicators of how important something is to you.
Where we spend our time and money is the most obvious proof of what's important to us.
Many have said they want to help, that what we're doing here is important and necessary! As the event draws near, we need action. We need people, who have expressed a desire to contribute, to help. We need people to donate time, and we need people to donate resources.
Then, and only then, will we see the full richness of what God can do through Rays of Light Philanthropic this December! A plan, without action, was really just a conversation.
Please help us put words into action so that this time, after the event, we will all be high-fiving each other... and feeling really great about what just happened, at that event, we were all at together!
