Talk Is Cheap

Faith Without Works Is Dead
James 2: 14-17
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

We have all been part of conversations where someone or a group, collectively, had big thoughts which led to big ideas. A brilliant project or event was conceived! Everybody high-fives each other and leaves feeling really good about what happened in that room. Everyone feels inspired! The problem is: most times at a follow-up meeting, nothing if not much action items have actually been completed. This typically happens several times and the end product is a lot less magnificent than it was dreamed up and projected to be, at the hour the vision was first hatched. Then a lot of "wish it would've/could've been"s follow, with the promise that it will be better next time.

What Happened? Human Nature. No more no less. Time became a constraint. Resources never materialized. It's a lot easier to have a good idea (even easier to agree with one!) than to follow through with the two most valuable indicators of how important something is to you.

Where we spend our time and money is the most obvious proof of what's important to us.

We have a big idea! We envision that the RLP 11th Annual CHRISTmas "Be a Blessing" Gala will bless more children and teenagers, who are in need, than it ever has before. But we need you!

Many have said they want to help, that what we're doing here is important and necessary! As the event draws near, we need action. We need people, who have expressed a desire to contribute, to help. We need people to donate time, and we need people to donate resources.

Then, and only then, will we see the full richness of what God can do through Rays of Light Philanthropic this December! A plan, without action, was really just a conversation.

Please help us put words into action so that this time, after the event, we will all be high-fiving each other... and feeling really great about what just happened, at that event, we were all at together!

Inspirational Message

At Rays of Light Philanthropic we exist to improve the quality of life for underprivileged children, youth and teens by providing basic needs including clothing, toiletries, backpacks, school supplies and toys.

RLP is committed to educating the community about the pervasive issue of foster care and homelessness among children, youth and teens through our events. Our desire is to nurture the spirit of servant-hood by enlisting our community members to help us serve the under-served.

We recognize that each one of us is created with unique abilities and different perspectives, which make it possible to utilize every person. Your opportunity to help is right in front of you. Choose it, commit to it, ask for help, and get out of your way!
Personal Challenge

How many times have you said you wanted to do something and then talked yourself out of it?

Does your commitment to helping those in need depend on your mood for the day? Does it hinge on the opinions of those around you? Do your actions align with your desire to make a change, to be a part of the change we need.

I challenge you today, to get out of your own way. Make a decision to do something and then actually do it. No matter how you feel. No matter what "THEY" say. No matter how hard it may seem. Roll up your sleeves, ask for help if you need it, and tell yourself, "I am going to see this through!". If we all had this kind of commitment to do our individual part, we would begin to see change happen on the grand scale. This kind of dedication will create an environment of change and growth. This kind of change can suffuse the hearts of those you come in contact with.

Are you willing to step out of your own way to help another person? Are you willing to let go of fear and comfort to create change? If you are, tell your hurt, fear, and excuses to step aside, set your sights on the door you choose...Now go through it and don't look back!
