Delta Township Earns  Distinguished Budget Award

Pictured Above (L to R): Jeff Anderson, Delta Township Finance Director and Howard Pizzo, Township Treasurer.

Delta Township recently received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The award is  the highest form of recognition in
governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement. The award reflects the commitment  of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of  governmental budgeting. The guidelines for award assess how well an entity's budget serves as:

* A policy document
* A financial plan
* An operations guide
* A communications device

Delta Township was rated proficient in all four categories along with fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories.
Construction at Intersection of Broadbent & Saginaw

Construction on the widening and installation of a new traffic signal at the corner of Saginaw Hwy and Broadbent Rd began on July 10 and will run for approximately six weeks. The project is the collective effort of Delta Township, Eaton County Road Commission and the Michigan Department of Transportation to improve traffic saftey at the intersection.

Saginaw Highway (M-43) Water Main Crossings

The Delta Township Board approved a contract with RJT Construction Company for the Saginaw Highway (M-43) Water Main Crossings.  The project replaces two sections of six (6) inch water main, approximately 100 feet in length each, crossing underneath Saginaw at Thomas L Parkway and Stone Ridge.  These two locations experienced a break in the water main during the winter of 2015 - 2016 and were subsequently cut, capped and turned off while a permanent solution could be designed and bid.  The designed solution involves directionally drilling a new 8 inch diameter high density polyethylene water line under Saginaw at each location and connecting on the north and south sides of Saginaw to re-establish these two crossings and the water main grid reliability in the area.
Changes Coming to Delta Township Recycling Center
Soon, things will look slightly different at the Delta Township Recycling Center. Previously, there were two different containers for collecting mixed paper (including magazines and catalogs) and newspaper. Beginning July 10, all these materials will be collected in the same container. The materials will still be purchased by a recycling processor and used to make new materials-they just won't need to be separated anymore. Not only does it mean a little less sorting for recyclers, it means more room at the Recycling Center. It's a win-win!
Safety Matters: Tips for Safe Transactions

It is common for people to buy and sell items where the source of the transaction originated via the internet. In instances where the buyer and seller are not known to each other, personal safety is always an important factor. Unfortunately, these kinds of transactions leave open the opportunity to be victimized if you are not careful. Given these factors, it is easy to see why safety and security is important in concluding transactions. To assist those who choose to engage in these types of transactions, we offer the following safety tips.
  • Avoid meeting anyone at your home whether buying or selling. It is suggested to meet in a public place such as a restaurant, shopping center or a place where there is a high volume of pedestrian or vehicle traffic. Delta Township offers a Safe Exchange Zone in front of the Eaton County Sheriff's Office located near the corner of Saginaw and Canal.
  • Avoid meeting at night, but if you must, then choose a location that is well lit and has a high volume of pedestrian or vehicular traffic, as the presence of other people provides an additional measure of safety.
  • We also recommend that when you are meeting a prospective buyer or seller, always take along another person to observe and witness the transaction.
  • Be aware that some criminals use financial or personal information such as credit cards or driver's license information to engage in identity theft and other financial crimes. Be careful when sharing such personal information.
  • If a dispute arises during the buying or selling of goods or services remember to exercise your right to terminate the transaction.
