MDOT Grant Will Help Bring Relief to Congested I-496/Creyts Rd. Interchange

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has awarded a state transportation economic development fund grant that will alleviate increased congestion and minimize current safety issues at the I-496/Creyts Road interchange. A Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF) Category A grant totaling $502,443 will go toward the total project cost along with additional contributions of $165,799 from Auto-Owners Insurance Co., and $97,650 from the MDOT University Region for an overall project cost of $765,892.

Auto-Owners' rapid growth has strained the I-496 interchange at Creyts Road and with the company adding an additional 231,000 square feet of office space with an additional 297 new full-time positions over the next four years at the south campus location, it will further impact traffic operations.

To increase safety and improve traffic flow, the MDOT University Region will install a new traffic signal at the westbound I-496 ramps at Creyts Road. In addition, MDOT will reconstruct the eastbound I-496 off ramp and extend the turn lanes at Creyts Road.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Mall Drive Closure - Mall Drive will be closed to thru traffic through mid-fall for the partial reconstruction and full resurfacing of the road. During construction, there will be restricted access to residential entrances along Mall Drive. Updates will be provided on the Delta Township Facebook page and website as needed. The Delta Mills Canoe Launch, as well as the pedestrian pathway along Old River Trail, have been completed. Please stay tuned for more information about our upcoming ribbon cutting event .

EVENTS

Trick-or-Treat Trail - Tuesday, October 8, 2019 (Rain Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2019) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sharp Park. $1 per child. Kids must provide their own trick-or-treat bag. Come walk the path around the pond at Sharp Park and see it as you never have before. The children will be able to “trick or treat” at the displays set up by local businesses and groups while candy supplies last. We encourage everyone to wear costumes. Final Call for Nominations

This is your final opportunity to nominate a Delta Township Resident, Business or Organization that is giving back to the community in a big way.

The Delta Township Community Awards Committee is seeking nominations for the 2019 Community Awards Program. Nominations are being sought in the following categories:

The Citizen of the Year Award will honor selected individual citizens whose extraordinary contributions go "above and beyond" to enhance the quality of life and general reputation of the township.

The Young Person of the Year Award is limited to high school seniors 2019-2020 (whether traditional high school or home-schooled) who have made a positive contribution to the community, is an example to their friends, may have excelled in academics, music, arts, athletics, etc., or has successfully faced personal challenges. A $2,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Delta Side Business Association, will be awarded to the selected individual.

The Community Organization of the Year Award will honor selected groups or organizations for their dedication in serving and promoting Delta Township through volunteer contributions that has impacted the quality of life in Delta Township, provided leadership over a period of years, thereby contributing to the township's character, and/or made a valuable contribution that has enhanced the quality of life for residents of Delta Township.

The Business of the Year Award will honor selected Delta Township businesses or business persons who have been responsible for exceptional outcomes between and among businesses, governments, and nonprofit organizations; OR, have served as a role model for other business; OR, have gone above and beyond the scope of business to support and promote Delta Township. The goal is to promote shared community interests and encourage business harmony within the township and among entities of the Greater Lansing Region.

All nominations must be submitted no later than Thursday, September 26, at 5:00 p.m. Nominations may be submitted online (a printable PDF version is also available). Last Two Extended Hour Passport Drives Coming Up!

The Delta Township Clerk’s Office accepts passport applications year around during regular office hours Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Clerk’s Office will hold its last two extended hours passport drives for 2019. One picture is required when submitting a passport application (Form DS-11 ONLY) and can be obtained at the Clerk’s Office for a $12.00 fee. If you are in need of passport and find it difficult to get to our office during regular office hours mark your calendar. The Clerk’s office will be open for extended hours to accept passport applications (Form DS-11 ONLY) on the following dates in 2019:

Wednesday, September 25 – 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Thursday, October 3 – 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Please visit the U.S. Department of State website for documentation requirements, fees, and application at www.travel.state.gov . NO CREDIT CARDS AND DEBIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED FOR PAYMENT OF PASSPORT APPLICATION FEES. THE APPLICATION FEE IS MAILED TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE WITH YOUR APPLICATION. PAYMENT MUST BE A MONEY ORDER OR CHECK. Two payments will be required: (1) Payable to the U.S. Department of State for processing of your passport, which must be in form of personal check or money order, and (2) Payable to Delta Township for pictures and service fee, which may be in the form of a personal check, money order, cash, debit or credit card.
