Talking Pointes
Welcome to Talking Pointes! The new monthly newsletter of the Wilmington Ballet!
Notes from the Directors
Dear Friends and Families,

It has been a truly productive summer at Wilmington Ballet. Let us be the first to welcome you to the 2018-2019 season — the Academy of the Dance's 62 nd year! We're busy planning an ambitious schedule of dance classes, events, and performances. We hope you'll be as enthusiastic as we are, as we strive for excellence in all that we do.

Parents, please join us for an informational meeting at the studios on Monday, August 13, from 6 – 7 p.m., as we share our future plans for WB. And if you can't attend the meeting, we'll still keep you in the loop! Be sure to check out the website and follow us on Instagram.

Our best to you,

New! Get Leotards, Tights, and Ballet Shoes at Wilmington Ballet
Thanks to a new partnership with the Brandywine Dance Shoppe, dancers will be able to purchase our dance uniforms at the studios. Leotards, tights, and ballet shoes — even warm-up booties — will be available soon. New Wilmington Ballet spirit wear and merchandise will also be available soon. Proceeds will benefit WB. Please see our website for new dress-code policies.
Nutcracker Auditions
We hope you'll be part of Wilmington's most beloved holiday tradition, the 52 nd annual Nutcracker, at the historic Playhouse on Rodney Square, where Victorians party, mice battle, snowflakes swirl, and visions of sugar plums dance in your head! Performances will be Saturday, December 8 th, at 2 and 7p.m., and Sunday, December 9 th, at 2 and 6p.m.

It all begins at auditions this August 20 th (children's) and 23 rd (adults). Dancers in Ballet A – H, as well as adult dancers, are eligible to audition. A $100 performance fee and an audition registration form are due by the audition date. Auditions are open to all area dancers.

Can't make it to the audition? Email us and let us know. Just be sure to fill out an audition registration form ahead of time. Casting will be posted in early September with the rehearsal schedule. Parents interested in volunteering should plan to attend the Ballet Guild meeting (see below) for more information on the Nutcracker production.

Ballet Guild and Alumni Association Now Forming
The Wilmington Ballet Guild will be the "PTA" of the ballet. It, along with the faculty, staff, alumni, and board of directors, will help WB meet our volunteer needs and provide a base of support for our artistic, community-building, and fundraising endeavors. All dance parents and friends of the ballet are welcome to join! Monthly meetings at the studios will usually be held on the first Saturday of the month — but the first meeting will be Saturday, September 8, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. An additional email with more information about the Ballet Guild will be sent soon.
Do you recognize this building?
Then you're an Academy of the Dance alumni! Email us to join our association.
Summer Classes a Success
Dancers who attended summer classes at WB had a wonderful time while gaining a valuable dance education. All three weeks of Summer Intensive and Princess Camps were full of friendly, hard-working dancers. Next summer, Intensive will be extended to four weeks. And a new two-week full-day Ballet Camp (for young dancers who are too old for Princess Camp) will be added. Details and dates announced soon on the website!
