GMEA Members and Friends,

Welcome to October – you’ve made it through two months of school! There are many activities coming up with GMEA to help you bring out the very best in your program – please refer to the GMEA calendar and the slide show from the district meetings for more information and application deadlines.

I want to focus on a new initiative that is not on the calendar – we are beginning to roll out our GMEA support network! We have lined up an impressive group of veteran and retired teachers from all teaching areas to serve as coaches for those new to the profession. All of our CNAfME members will be contacted during their student teaching and given the opportunity to be connected with a coach from their teaching and geographic area. This program will be later expanded to include teachers in their first three years of teaching. Developing an ongoing professional relationship with someone who can serve as a coach/advocate/mentor is essential to successfully navigate those first days and years of teaching. We feel this will be a wonderful resource and we are excited to get it started!
