Batteries Not Included: Artworks by Christopher Rivera

Looking back on his pre-digital childhood, artist Christopher Rivera finds more than just fond memories, he finds inspiration. The subjects of his paintings are iconic characters like He-Man, Barbie and Mr. Potato Head, transporting the viewer back to their own youth. This collection of works promotes open-ended reflection and a return to the days when children weren't so quick to grow up.

Enjoy live music while supporting a good cause at the Rockin' with Spirit Benefit Concert. This concert gives the Spirit of a Child Foundation the opportunity to raise important funds while showcasing nationally-known and local musicians to the community for an evening of great entertainment and fun. This year's featured performer is Grammy award-winning country singer Bryan White.

Identity in the Ottoman Empire
Presented by Museum of Fine Arts at FSU

Evening reception on Friday, August 30, 2019
Indulge in an exploration of the diverse ethnic and religious identities that coexisted in the Ottoman Empire (ca. 1300-1922). Architecture, period photography, stamps, textiles, calligraphy, illustrated documents, and interactive displays will bring to life this vast and complex period in world history. The evening reception will be on Friday, August 30 at 6:00PM.

Handmade History: Southern Womanhood

Explore the diversity and complexity of southern womanhood. Special guests from the community include Hannah Beth Ragland (bookseller at Midtown Reader), Misty Penton (Education Director at the Fred George Greenway Museum), and Brittany Smith (Public Information and Communications Manager for Leon County) whom will lead the group discussion. During their conversations, they will be working on a small cross-stitch kit, with instruction from staff.

e 5th Annual Greater Southeastern Harmonica Championships. Participants will get a free t-shirt, workshop access, and one free drink. Even if you don't compete, you can come to hear the amazing talent. The competition gets better every year and this year it's gonna be a blowout.

Black Dog Speaks: Open Mic Poetry Reading
Bring poems, short stories, and even short songs to share at this poetry open mic. All poets and the public are invited to the premiere of Black Dog Speaks, poetry at Black Dog on the Square. This event will be hosted by poet and artist Linda Marie with featured poet Taj Shotwell.
