Road closures will occur 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday each week until October.
Tate Branch and
Sandy Bottoms campgrounds will be closed Monday through Thursday, but will be open to visitor use Friday through Sunday. Visitors will still be able to stay at nearby Tallulah River Campground, but may also consider Sarah's Creek Campground or West Fork Campground
located on scenic waterways approximately 15 miles east of Clayton, Ga.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we work to repair Tallulah River Road that provides access to this beautiful part of the national forest,” says District Ranger Ryan Foote. “We recognize this project will impact the public’s ability to access and experience national forest service lands and camping opportunities. However, these closures are necessary to allow this project to be completed in a timely fashion and ensure we provide safe motorized access for visitors and nearby residents.”
In 2019 Tallulah River Road experienced significant damage after heavy rains, including a landslide that impacted approximately 40 feet of roadway. Staff for the Chattooga River Ranger District made immediate repairs to help stabilize the remaining roadway until these long-term repairs begin.
