Update on the Use Permit Applications to Continue TCSD Events

As you may know, TCSD submitted two use permit applications to the County of Marin for 203 Marin Ave (Tam Valley Community Center) and 305 Bell Lane (TCSD main office and corporation yard) to allow TCSD to continue to provide services and community events for its residents. The applications were in response to threatened litigation against TCSD by a neighboring resident and a code enforcement action triggered by a resident’s anonymous complaint.

Specifically, the use permit application for 203 Marin Ave. will allow TCSD to continue to have bands (amplified outdoor music) at Creekside Fridays, Oktoberfest, and Earth Day events at the Tam Valley Community Center. The use permit application for 305 Bell Lane will allow TCSD to continue to offer Debris Day twice a year and the annual Household Hazardous Waste Day (HHWD).  Please note in response to several community comments and to provide more clarity as to the TCSD request, the use permit application for 305 Bell Lane was modified to only request an amendment to allow for Debris Days and HHWD. References to existing operations were removed in the application.

Thank you to the over 800 people who e-signed or signed the on-line letter of support for continuing TCSD’s events and operations at our current location. The letter of support and list signatures was submitted to the County of Marin. We also appreciated the many of you who attended the Tamalpais Design Review Board (TDRB) on March 5th meeting to consider the use permit applications.

Public Hearing Date

The County of Marin has set a date for the public hearing for the Deputy Zoning Administrator to consider the use permit applications. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 16th at 10:00am in Room 328 at the Marin County Civic Center. Information on the County’s Community Development Agency’s website has not been updated yet. We will provide updates in future newsletters when more information becomes available.

Parks & Recreation Commission Applications Being Accepted

There are two seats on the five member Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) with terms expiring.

If you are interested in applying for PARC, click here for the application.   The application form has more info regarding PARC commissioner roles and the Board’s interview and appointment process. Applications are due May 30th by 5:00pm.

FIRE SAFETY

Prescribed Burn

Marin County Fire has rescheduled the prescribed burn to June 13th

Throughout the last decade prescribed burns have been used to naturally mitigate fire fuels throughout many public lands in Marin on TCSD lands. It has been done a couple times in the last 10 years in the Rhubarb Meadow. We have noticed that there has been a build up a significant amount of tree branches and fallen fuels that have become more evident since the goats have started grazing five or six years ago.

TCSD has coordinated with County Fire to do a prescribed burn in the Rhubarb Meadow, just after the goats are through below Marin View, the week of May 19. This will help to create defensible space between open space and Marin View and is important to fire safety. The Rhubarb Meadow is inaccessible for a chipper so a prescribed burn is necessary.

Please be aware that there will be some smoke from the fires. Please do not call 911 to report a fire.
