Happy New Year! As we get back to our regular schedule, we are sending out a special newsletter to update you on the storm headed our way tomorrow. Please prepare and be safe!

We are also including information about recycling Christmas trees. Please DO NOT put them out early, with the storm, they may wash or blow away, causing other hazards.

Center will be cancelled tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4th.

Winter Storm Update
A major storm is headed to the Bay Area that will bring substantial rainfall on Wednesday and continuing Thursday, not tapering off until Thursday afternoon.
 
National Weather Service has issued the following advisories:
  • Flood Watch in effect from 4am Wednesday, January 4 through 4pm Thursday, January 5.
  • High Wind Watch in effect from 4am Wednesday, January 4 through 10pm Thursday, January 5.
 
What could happen?  

Due to saturated soils from the previous series of storms, the approaching storm will likely bring rising creeks/streams and flooding in low-lying and flood-prone locations. Strong, gusty winds will likely bring branches and trees down. Storm drains may get clogged with debris. Street flooding is very possible.  

Please expect these hazards/inconveniences and take steps NOW to prepare. 
 
  • Stay home and off the roads as much as possible. Those who live in flood prone areas and leave home may face the possibility of being unable to return home if roadways close due to flooding.
  • If you must drive, use extra caution, allow extra time, slow down and do not drive through flooded areas. 
  • Those living in flood prone areas should be prepared for possible flooding impacts.
  • Secure outdoor objects that could be picked up by wind.

Sandbags
We advise that you do your best to sandbag vulnerable areas at your home to limit potential damage. We have sand available in the Community Center parking lot at 203 Marin Avenue. Bring your own shovel to fill bags. Limited bags available to fill; please consider bringing your own.

Christmas Tree Recycling
If you have a live tree and are looking to have it composted:

Tam Valley CSD Tree Collection
  • Tuesday January 10th through Friday, January 13th put your tree on the curb on your regular collection day.
  • Please DO NOT put them out early, with the storm, they may wash or blow away, causing other hazards.
  • Trees can also be cut up into pieces up to 2 ft long and 4 inches in diameter and placed in the green bin. Lid must be able to close.

Please Note: do not leave your Christmas trees in the Community Center parking lot. TCSD retains a contractor to pick-up and chip trees from Jan. 10th to Jan. 13th. Any trees collected prior to Jan. 10th and after Jan. 13th results in additional costs to the District.

To prepare your tree for both curbside collection and drop-off:

• Remove all tree stands (metal, plastic, wood), ornaments, lights, tinsel, etc.
• Flocked trees will not be accepted.
• Apartment building tenants should contact their manager and request that they set up one day for holiday tree collection at the property.
