Computer & mathematical employment among fastest growing occupations in Hillsborough County

Over the next five years, jobs within the computer & mathematical occupations are expected to grow by 12%, placing it fourth among the fastest growing employment sectors, according to Chmura JobsEQ.


The EDC's research analyst Robin DiSalvo wanted to dig deeper into this sector to find out which specific occupations were contributing most to this five-year growth. She discovered there are several occupations, such as statisticians, research analysts, software developers and information security analysts that are growing in the double digits.

Tampa ranks 4th best city 
for opportunity  zone investments

A new report by Chicago-based Cushman & Wakefield lists Tampa among the best places to invest in opportunity zones, a program that aims to direct private economic investment into historically disadvantaged areas.
 
The firm analyzed more than 45 markets that contain 31 percent of the nation's opportunity zones. Several Florida metros ranked in the top 10, with Tampa coming in at #4. Overall, Sunbelt markets lead the group, as growing populations and tax regulatory environments are favorable for development.

Tampa's economy has grown from 1.2 million jobs in 2014 to 1.4 million jobs in 2018, a 17% increase. Tampa's strongest sector in the past five years has been professional and business services. Tampa's average annual wage increased from $49,300 in 2014 to $54,000 in 2018.
