Guest Designer, Michele Bernstein (pdxknitterati), will be at Tangled Purls this month teaching two inspiring classes Her students will learn many new skills!

Blocking: It's Magic! How to block your knitting.

In this two hour information packed class, Michele will discuss why, when and how to block your hand knit and crocheted projects. Topics will include wet blocking and steam blocking, and we'll have a hands-on blocking demonstration with volunteer participation. You will be amazed at the difference blocking makes!

Class Cost: $20
Materials - none.
Homework: None!

Kerfuffle Cowl, by Michele Bernstein

Michele will teach the basics of stranded colorwork and get you started on a lovely cowl. The cowl is knit in the round, and is a good introduction to stranded colorwork knitting (also known as Fair Isle). Students will learn to use 2 colors in the same row while knitting in the round. The right side is faces you, so no purling back! Floats, how to hold the yarn, how to choose colors - think of the possibilities when you're done!

If you choose a variegated yarn for the contrast color, you'll look like an ever so clever color genius, but all the work was done for you by the dyer!

Class Date: Saturday, May 16, 2015
Class Time: 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm, 1 session
Class Cost: $25 + supplies (list provided at registration)

Class times: 11:15-1:15 pm
Registration fee: $30.00  + supplies (list provided at registration)  Pattern available at Yarnspirations.com.

Spinning yarn on a spinning wheel: $30 an hour (supplies included)

-We'll learn how to make a basic yarn on a spinning wheel using different forms of wool, such as wool top and loose wool fleece. We'll go over thread plying and 2 strand yarn plying as well. If you have a wheel, bring that, but if not, you can practice on my Louet S10. Fiber will be provided, but feel free to bring anything you are interested in spinning. Call the shop for contact info.

Art Yarn Spinning: $35 an hour (supplies included)

-This session will cover a variety of art yarn spinning techniques depending on what you want to learn. We can go over things like tailspinning, sluggy plying, add-ins, twists, Navajo plying, super thick and thin, and anything you have an interest in learning. I'll show you how to create a textured batt on a drum carder and also how to spin a textured yarn without using a drum carder. I will have some different fibers to use for this class, but feel free to bring any fibers you're interested in incorporating into your yarns. If you have a wheel, bring that, but if not, you can use my Louet S10. Call the shop for contact info.

Freeform Crochet Headband: $30 an hour (supplies not included)

-This session will show you how to use all those small balls of yarn and textured yarns you just don't know what to do with. With freeform crochet you can combine them and create a great, unique, wearable piece. I'll show you how to create texture, organic shaping, holes, and ruffles. We'll create a headband, which is a great start to eventually going larger, like a scarf. You must already know how to crochet, just basic chain stitch is fine. Bring Any yarns you want to create a headband with. A worsted to bulky yarn is great, but you can also bring any textured yarns you want to use. Also bring a few crochet hooks from H-K if possible. I will have some hooks to use as well. Call the shop for contact info.
