NEW IBERIA, La. -- The Iberia Performing Arts League is proud to announce the opening of  the legendary Cole Porter musical, "Anything Goes."

The show will run March 17 - April 2, 2017,  with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door, but advance sale tickets can be purchased at Delaune's Pharmacy, The Daily Iberian and Paul's Flower Shop. Tickets are available online at EventBrite.com (search IPAL), as well as by calling (337) 364-6114 and leaving a message. Tickets are $20 and seating is reserved.

Porter's classic musical has been charming audiences for generations. This whimsical tale of a stockbroker who falls in love with a penniless debutante destined to marry a stuffy English lord first hit the Broadway stage in 1934. After major revivals in 1962 and 1987, it recently hit the Broadway lights again in 2011, starring the luminous Sutton Foster and the venerable Joel Grey. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival and brought Sutton Foster her second Tony award for Best Actress.

In "Anything Goes" a stock broker's assistant (Brendan Carr) sneaks on board the S.S. American, a lavish luxury liner, to rekindle his love for a society debutante name Hope (Natalie Sibille), who is betrothed to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (Mitchell Prudhomme). He is aided by Reno Sweeney (Katelyn Gulotta), the brassy, beautiful night club singer who works on the ship. Sneaking aboard also is Moonface Martin (Vincent P. Barras and Mike Labiche on certain nights), a cantankerous gangster, and his partner in crime Erma Latour (Angie Sanford and Erin Segura on certain nights.) They bump into a rich Wall Street broker (Milton Resweber), the debutante's mom (Melissa Bowen) and a ship full of fabulous singers and dancers.

The director is Vincent P. Barras, who just finished directing his sixth youth musical in the last eight year. "Guess I've made it to the big time now," he laughed. "It's all about bringing quality musical theater to this insanely-rich-in-talent area."

Having played Roxie Hart in 2012's Chicago, Katelyn Gulotta now returns to play Reno Sweeney, the role played by Sutton Foster, Patti Lupone, and even Ethel Merman.

"I've always dreamed of playing Reno, especially when IPAL announced it was going to do the show" she laughed while mentioning, "especially since it's a triple-threat role of singing, acting and dancing."

Male lead Brendan Carr noted, since this is his first IPAL production. "I wrote back to the director saying that I was sorry for not responding sooner, but I had to run outside and yell and holler because I was so elated to get the part!"

IPAL is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Art Works! Additional Funding provided by the Iberia Parish Foundation, an affiliate of Community Foundation of Acadiana.
