Graduate Spotlight - A Life Changing Moment

Erin Kidwell, a Marin County resident and Software Engineering Executive, is consciously doing her part to be part of the climate change solution, but not long ago, she was feeling overwhelmed - almost helpless.


“The workshops are amazing! There is a whole range of solutions offered, from turning off lights, to adding solar, and everything between. There are tangible things that are specific to my socio-economic status or my ability or desire,” Erin shared.

Zero Waste Marin - Minimize your food landfill trash?

Zero Waste Marin is running a pilot program with Mill to offer Marin residents an easy way to keep food scraps out of landfills.


Mill offers a hassle-free and odorless solution for keeping your food waste out of the trash. The Mill food recycler reduces food scraps by 80% and transforms them into nutrient-rich grounds that can be used in your garden or easily emptied into your curbside green cart. The best part? It takes weeks to fill, resulting in fewer trips to the curb.


Up to 125 Marin residents and organizations will receive a free Mill food recycler.


Participants will be asked to complete surveys about their experience to help Zero Waste Marin evaluate the effectiveness of the program.


To qualify, participants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Earn less than $125,000 annually for a household of 2, or
  • Earn less than $148,000 for a household of 4; or
  • Be a non-profit organization serving Marin.

1408 Mission Ave, San Rafael. From native wildflowers to nectar-rich plants, they will have a wide selection of 40 pollinator-friendly species that will attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to your yard.


Saturday, March 1 | 11:00am-12:00pm PST. Monarchs in Marin. UC Master Gardeners. Venue: Larkspur Library. Larkspur City Hall first floor, 400 Magnolia Ave., Larkspur. Monarch butterflies, as much as we love them, are in danger of extinction here in California. Learn about their life cycle/needs and practical steps that we can take in Marin County to help with their survival.


Thursday, March 6 | 5:00-6:00pm PST. Save on an EV with Incentives. Ride & Drive Clean. Join EV experts to learn how you can save money with incentives on a new EV or Plug-in Hybrid EV. They will also cover EV basics like charging at home and on the road and showcase popular models.

Stay with your item while it's being fixed, so you can learn tips for future maintenance, how to shop for repairable goods, and even how to repair things yourself! Pre-register your item at the link above.


Saturday, March 15 | 8:45am-12:00pm PST. Volunteer Opportunity: Habitat Restoration- Bald Hill Broom Bust. Marin Water. Join Marin County Parks and Marin Water for the annual Bald Hill Broom Bust, where you'll focus on containing the spread of French and Scotch brooms. This is a family-friendly activity appropriate for ages 8 and older. Lunch and water are provided. Bring gloves and a water bottle. Meet at Fairfax - San Anselmo Children’s Center School parking lot in the Deer Park neighborhood.

Tuesday, March 18 | 6:00pm PST. Paul Hawken with Peter Coyote - Carbon: The Book of Life. Venue: Book Passage, 51 Tama Vista Blvd, Corte Madera. This event is free and will be hosted in-person & live online. Thursday, March 27 | 4:00pm-5:00pm PST. Climate Webinar with Tom Steyer. League of Women Voters- Climate Interest Group. Climate investor Tom Steyer, a climate champion and visionary, will speak about the climate crisis and how local action is critical. He’s the author of "Cheaper, Faster, Better: How We’ll Win the Climate War," which was highly praised by Al Gore and Bill McKibben, among others.
