Declare your Independence!
Summer is here and each weekend the market gets better and better as the bounty of fresh fruits and veggies continues to grow. Some things are with us all season long, and others, like sour cherries, will be gone in the blink of an eye. Make a commitment to savor the season, and each and every gift it bestows upon us. Teach your kids to appreciate the summer's first juicy peach, and red ripe cherry tomato. So much hard work and love goes into growing everything you see at the farmers' market.

This summer, declare your independence from super markets and big box stores, and celebrate the taste of local food grown by the farmers you know and love.

Fresh Finds of the Week
Hello Peaches!
Dubbed the perfect peach by Edible Jersey magazine, the first Scholl Orchards peaches arrive tomorrow... sweet, juicy, and the perfect reason to come to market. You'll also find tart cherries, apples, tomatoes, the season's first green beans, and lots of other just picked veggies too!
Bring on the Berries!
Celebrate this July 4th holiday with Phillips Farms. Enjoy the variety of berries available this time of year, including Blueberries, Raspberries, Gooseberries, and Currants.  Phillips Farms will have Sour Cherries available this week only. The first peaches of the season will also be available. And you will still find your favorite Phillips Farms vegetables including Greenhouse Tomatoes, Spring Garlic, Garlic Scapes, Arugula and Fennel.
Cabbage Throw Farm
Looking for a tasty side to bring to your next picnic? Fennel & Basil Slaw with a citrus vinaigrette is a delicious side to serve with all your grilled up goodies from Breakaway Farms or Portobellas from Primordia! Thinly chop fennel and toss together with fennel fronds, ribboned basil and orange lemon vinaigrette - crunchy and refreshing!

Also available this weekend, yellow and green summer squash, cucumbers, romaine, baby greens, beets, carrots and more!
Salvaterra's Gardens
Eggplant arrives this weekend at Salvaterra's, along with celery and the first red onions.

Matt and Jess will also have spring mix, arugula, kale, collards, head lettuce, fennel, parsley, dill, cilantro, basil, red, green and nappa cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, zucchini, cucumbers, yellow onions, beets, carrots, scallions and hakurei turnips.

Holy Cow Farm
Holy Cow has their usual farm fresh bouquets this week including the option to choose-your-own flowers. Lilies are coming to an end for the season with zinnias and soon dahlias taking over as the focus of our arrangements along with lots of additional new and interesting blooms. Featured here is a photo of a Basket Flower, which is a species native to North America. The blooms are unique and reminiscent of fireworks with a delicate fragrance of sweet honey. Pollinators can't get enough of them and they can also be used as a dried flower.
Backyard Growers
The featured plant this week will be the Denver Daisy, which is a Black-eyed Susan (scientific name Rudbeckia Hirta). In 2008, the city of Denver, Colorado, celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding. For the occasion, Benary Seed Company cross bred a Black-eyed Susan native to Colorado with one called Prairie Sun, producing a plant they named the Denver Daisy. The anniversary committee passed out packets of seeds to schools and businesses around Denver, and that summer the city was full of Denver Daisies. Technically, the Denver Daisy is a perennial, but with a very short life span, therefore it will be sold as an annual.
Pheasant Hill Farm (and PorTchTea)
Pheasant Hill Farm will have colorful hottie bouquets this week, with deep purple, magenta, yellow, and other flowers that say bring on summer!

Don’s PorTch Tea kombucha will keep you cool. Lots on tap this week. We are picking raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and harvesting chamomile like crazy for that fresh flavor you can’t find in stores.

Fieldstone Coffee Roasters & Tea Leaf
Did you know that Fieldstone's inspiration for their craft began in Hawaii? Yep that’s where it all began back in 2007. Since then, their passion to create the ultimate drink experience has not stopped! While living in Hawaii they studied coffee farming, processing, and the Polynesian culture. You will notice that most of their teas and coffees on tap have some sort of story behind them sharing the story of the islands. So what better beverage is there then a COCONUT beverage if you are celebrating the islands!? Sharing inspiration this week: Coconut Nitro Coffee on tap- Inspired by Maui Brewing Company; Coconut Porter. Aloha Nitro Tea- Inspired by a Pina-Cola poolside. Taro Grade A Bubble Milk Tea; Inspired by Taro being a Staple of the Native Hawaiian diet and was believe to be sacred, Coconut Bubble Tea- Inspired by Honolulu Waikiki beach walk and Wailea, Maui, fresh roasted coffee and the art of coffee roasting and blending; Bad Ass Coffee Company, Maui Hawaii 2007.
