Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich this week talks about how a variety of incidents—including one in Montgomery County this week—show that the nation has a wide mental health crisis that must be addressed. On a more positive note, he provides insight on how the biotech industry is so important to the County economy. He notes that COVID-19 cases are currently in slight decline. He offers details on the nine residents he has nominated to serve on the County’s first Police Accountability Board. COVID-19 Updates: Boosters Available for 5-11 Year Olds, Mulitple Testing Options Available, Continue Preventative Measures as COVID-19 Has Not Ended

COVID-19 booster shots for children ages 5-11 were recently approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and County-operated clinics are providing them for children who had their second dose at least five months ago. Read more.

Rental Assistance for County Residents

Eligible Montgomery County renters can soon apply for additional COVID-19 rent relief through the fourth phase of the County’s Rent Relief program, which provides financial assistance for tenants that have experienced a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Read more.

Taste of Wheaton Returns with Full Day of Food, Music and Activities on
Sunday, June 12, in Downtown Wheaton

The Taste of Wheaton will return after a two-year hiatus with a full day of food, music and activities for all ages from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, at Marian Fryer Plaza in Downtown Wheaton. Rides and activities are free, with food and drinks available for purchase from local Wheaton restaurants. Read more.

Registration is now open for Montgomery County Public Schools middle school students interested in attending the fourth year of the unique and innovative “Montgomery Can Code Camp” this summer. The free virtual program is a public-private partnership formed by Montgomery College, Montgomery County Public Schools and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation with Apple. Wheaton Downtown Study open house on June 14
Montgomery Planning will provide background on the study, and initial strategies to advance the vision of the 2012 Wheaton CBD and Vicinity Sector Plan
WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, will hold a community open house for the Wheaton Downtown Study on June 14, 2022 (4 – 7:00 p.m.) at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters Auditorium (2425 Reedie Drive, Floor 2, Wheaton, MD 20902). At the open house, Montgomery Planning staff will provide an overview of the purpose of the study, discuss strengths, opportunities and challenges within the Wheaton Central Business District, and present initial strategies to further the implementation of the 2012 Wheaton CBD and Vicinity Sector Plan. The open house is in-person only and the presentation will be made available on demand.

Three County Departments to Cohost ‘CDL Job Fair’
on Saturday, June 11
|

A job fair for holders of Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL licenses) and for individuals who would like to pursue earning a CDL license to get jobs with Montgomery County will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, at the County Executive Office Building in Rockville. The job fair will offer details on CDL-related jobs, and other positions, with the County’s Department of Transportation, the Department of Alcohol Beverage Services and the Department of General Services. 2022 Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival Poster Contest
Winner is K.S. Brenowitz of Silver Spring
The sixth annual Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival poster will be based on the design submitted by K.S. Brenowitz, a Silver Spring resident and graphic artist. The contest was open to all residents of Montgomery County. Following their selection, Brenowitz worked with Wheaton Art Parade designer Josue Martinez of Corinto Gallery to apply the original design to the poster and for use on other promotional materials, including the T-shirt, for the event that will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25, in Downtown Wheaton. League of Women Voters Primary Election Voters' Guide 2022 is Available!

|
The League of Women Voters of Mo Co’s Voters’ Guide has candidate responses to questions asked by the non-partisan League. Use it to assist you in your decision-making process as you prepare to vote your mail-in ballot (if you applied for one), or at Early Voting Centers from July 7 to 14, or on Primary Election Day, July 19.
Four ways to get the Voters’ Guide:
1. Online at VOTE411.org – enter your address to see the candidates on your ballot and compare the their responses to our questions in English and Spanish.
2. On paper - distributed to Montgomery County facilities such as libraries, senior and community centers the week of June 13. This English version is shorter, due to space limitations.
3. On our website, lwvmocomd.org - printable Voters' Guide in English and Spanish in PDF format.
4. In El Tiempo Latino newspapers – Spanish version as an insert on June 17.
