New & Interesting Wines:

Santa Elvira Spumante Brut, Italy, $10.99
Blend of Pinot Noir and Trebbiano from Emilia Romagna - taste it with us Friday!

Respide-Medeville Les Justices Bordeaux Blanc 2016, $22.99
"This family from the Graves also has a tasty 'second wine' made from 60% Sauvignon Blanc
and 40% Semillon. It comes from a seperate estate, high on a hill north of Langon in
Bordeaux. It is dry and crisp with considerable depth of citrus/melon fruit with additional
notes of slate, honeysuckle and hay making for a complex and inviting palate." DM

Zocker 2015 Gruner Veltliner Paragon Vineyard, Edna Valley, CA, $20.99
"We were so happy to taste this new vintage of one of the top examples of this classic
Austrian varietal from California's Central Coast. The change in climate and altitude tame
the acidity a touch, but this is still zesty and refreshing. It also shows a bit more purity
of fruit and less rind/pit than you might expect from its homeland. It all adds up to a
wonderful apperitif or accompaniment to fresh veggies, fish, antipasta..." DM

Colome Torrontes 2016, Salta, Argentina, $13.99
"Sourced from 50-year-old parral vineyards planted at 1,700 and 2,300 meters altitude.
Bottled without malolactic in the month of June. This is perfumed and lightly floral with
the Torrontés notes making an appearance in the palate, which fills the mid palate and
leaves that sensation of Moscatel pulp. This has the intensity of older vines and slightly
longer fermentation and combines power with great freshness. The acidity seems to compensate
the faint bitterness inherent to the grape. In general, they are harvesting the white grapes
earlier than before, a general tendency they also started to apply to the reds in search of
more freshness. This is the best young Torrontés I've had from Colomé. Kudos to winemaker
Thibaud Delmotte and his team!" 90+pts WA

Domaine Serene Chardonnay "Evenstad Reserve" 2013, Willamette Valley, OR, $61.99
"The 2013 was matured for 14 months in 25% new French oak. It has a well-defined bouquet
with fine delineation and mineralité, conveying more complexity than the single vineyard
offerings in 2013. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, green apple and fresh
pear notes, and a dash of lemongrass on the finish that lingers nicely. This is a
harmonious, nuanced and delicious Chardonnay that will age well over the next 10-12 years
and it offers great value at that price point." 92pts WA

William Fevre Chablis "Champs Royaux" 2015, France, $27.99
"Bright and vivid aromas of sliced limes, green apples and stones. Medium-bodied, round and
savory. Some gun-powder undertones. Lovely fruit and drinkability. All about the nose with
this wine." 91pts JS

William Fevre Chablis "Montmains" 1er Cru 2015, France, $54.99
"The 2015 Chablis 1Er Cru Montmains, which comes from parcels located in Butteaux, Fôret and
Montmains itself, had a pleasant reductive note on the nose that did not seem to impede the
terroir expression. The palate is taut and focused, fresh right from the start with a crisp
line of acidity, full of energy and tension. Dare I say, this is more like a 2014 on the
finish thanks to its tension. This is certainly worth seeking out." 90-92pts WA

William Fevre Chablis "Fourchaume" 1er Cru 2015, France, $59.99
"The 2015 Chablis 1Er Cru Fourchaume comes from eight parcels on marn soils within the
lieu-dit of Vaulorent. It has a delightful bouquet with scents of fresh pear, a hint of
marzipan; it is sweet and charming while retaining Chablis-like austerity and poise. The
palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, well poised with a touch of salinity developing
towards the harmonious finish. This is another excellent wine from William Fevre." 90-92pts

William Fevre Chablis "Vaulorent" 1er Cru 2014, France, $84.99
"The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent, which head winemaker Didier Séguier described as "a
baby grand cru," was a little cloudier than the Fourchaume in the glass. It has a complex
nose with a touch of grilled almond and dried apricot, well defined but just a little sultry
at the moment. The palate is relatively rich on the entry compared to the other Premier Crus
and this lends roundness and suppleness in the mouth. It gently builds with great precision,
hints of lime and apricot flourishing on the peacock's tail of a finish. This is one of
William Fevre's best wines this year." 92-94pts WA

William Fevre Chablis "Les Preuses" Grand Cru 2014, France, $127.99
"Bright pale yellow. Elegant, refined aromas of yellow peach, lime leaf and white flowers.
Densely packed and urgent, conveying outstanding intensity but no undue weight to its
flavors of stone fruits, flowers and yeasty, iodiney oyster shell. Subtle treble notes of
lime and mint lift the nose and palate. Wonderfully complex, silky, classy wine with a very
long, seamless, subtly mounting finish. Séguier figures he'll like this wine best in 5 to 10
years but believes it will still be outstanding in 15." 95pts V

Steelhead Pinot Noir 2015, North Coast, CA, $16.99
"This was a very pleasant surprise from superstar Pinot Noir winemaker Greg La Follette
(Flowers & la Follette). It is classic Pinot with bright, tangy cherry and cranberry fruits.
It tastes pure and unadulterated, unlike so many other Pinots in this price range. The
winery also does a bunch of cool stuff to restore healthy waterways (as the name and the
'Trout Unlimited' stamp on the label imply)." DM

Colome Malbec "Estate" 2014, Salta, Argentina, $25.99
"Offers zesty flavors redolent of kirsch, raspberry ganache, red currant and crushed red
plum, with concentrated minerality midpalate. The finish lingers with hints of white pepper
and chocolate nibs. Drink now through 2024. Smart Buy." 92pts WS, also 92pts JS & V & 91pts

Hess "Lion Tamer" Napa Valley Red 2014, CA, $44.99
"Another fascinating wine that symbolizes the new level of quality as well as innovation and
creativeness at Hess Collection is the 2014 Proprietary Red The Lion Tamer, a red blend,
which is 55% Malbec, 15% Zinfandel, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah and 8% Merlot.
It comes from vineyards throughout Napa and is a delicious, Mediterranean style of wine,
with notes of forest floor, underbrush, lavender, loads of black cherry and blackcurrant, a
nice, spicy meatiness and a medium to full-bodied finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years."
93pts WA

Achaval-Ferrer "Quimera" 2012, Mendoza, Argentina, Reg. $39.99, Sale $32.99
"Tightly wound, with intense cherry and raspberry preserve flavors, flanked by Asian spice
notes. Bittersweet chocolate accents appear on the finish. Needs time to flesh out. Malbec,
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2016 through 2019."
90pts WS

Edgebaston (Stellenbosch) 2014 'Pepper Pot' $19.99
"Lots of peppery character with berry, spice and chocolate. Full body and round texture with
juicy fruit. Excellent value. A blend of mostly syrah with some tannant, mourvedre and
grenache. This is really exciting." 90pts JS

Occhipinti "Tami" Frapatto 2016, Sicily, Italy, $19.99
"This is a wonderful, lighter-bodied red as it only sees one week of skin contact and is
fermented and matured in stainless steel. This grape is often blended with Nero d'Avola to
give Nero extra brightness, but Occhipinti shows that Frapatto can be delightful on its own
for its super-fresh mix of red berry fruits." DM

Rizzi Barbaresco "Rizzi" 2007, Piedmont, Italy, $38.99
"The 2007 Barbaresco Rizzi possesses striking inner perfume and a soft, caressing
personality. Hard candy, licorice and crushed flowers are some of the notes that develop in
the glass in this very pretty, understated Barbaresco. This is the most nuanced of the wines
I tasted from Rizzi. Striking sweet rose petals linger in the empty glass. The Rizzi is a
jewel of a wine, and is one of the best I have ever tasted here. Anticipated maturity: 2012
-2020." 91pts WA
