foodie boost | manneken frites

Manneken Frites mascot and menu
What do traveling foodies do when they want to start a business? Offer something that no one else has and prepare it like you'd find in the old country, in this case, Belgium - the birthplace of frites ("freetz"), known in the US as fries.

That was the inspiration behind Chris and Kim Stromberg's business idea after a visit to the Big Apple, and to Belgium before that, where they discovered how potatoes are prepared the Belgian way: cut thick, fried to order, and served with savory sauces and beer.

Click here to learn how Chris and Kim turned their foodie passion into a successful business in Olde Town Arvada with help from CEF and the AEDA Microloan Fund. Part of our 2017 Where are they now? Wednesdays success story series on social media.

sba administrator visits small businesses at stanley marketplace

SBA Administrator McMahon with Maria Empanada owner Lorena Cantavorici
The new SBA Administrator, Linda McMahon, visited  Denver Startup Week, and spoke about small business growth before visiting the new  Stanley Marketplace. There she met our borrowers, Miette et Chocolat and Maria Empanada, plus other small businesses before convening a round table with business owners. Her visit is part of the  SBA Ignite Tour, a cross-country trek where entrepreneurs, small business owners, and community leaders meet with Ms McMahon to talk about tax reform, regulations, access to capital and other topics of concern to help her advocate for small businesses in Washington, D.C. We look forward to having the SBA Administrator meet more of our #smallbiz borrowers on a future visit!
