Kal Penn's first book 'You Can't Be Serious' released on November 2, 2021, is dedicated to his 20-year-old self. The actor/writer, found the pandemic was the perfect time to put his story together and share his experiences about facing racism in Hollywood, the entertainment industry, his coming out story and working in the Obama administration. He will talk about his book in the keynote speech!

Kal has starred in various critically acclaimed blockbuster titles such as the Harold and Kumar franchise, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, Superman Returns, The Namesake. Kal will be introduced by the one and only Mira Nair!

The gala will feature stand-up comedy by Sonal Aggarwal. Sonal is an actor, comedian, producer and movement artist based in Chicago. Her one woman show The Alchemy of Bliss played for a sold out weekend at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater and you can see her on Netflix’s Easy.

Tasveer Community Stories : Frames of Mind Applications open!

We invite you to speak your story to nurture your heart and empower your mind!

Community Stories 2022 will be a combination of our legacy programs: Yoni Ki Baat and Community Speaks. In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re expanding our initiative to include all members of our community to speak up and share their stories about mental health and the importance of it's awareness in society.

You do not have to be a writer or performer to participate. We strive to provide a safe space during the preparatory phase, which is characterized by active listening, compassion, non-judgmental attitude, mutual respect, trust, and collaboration. You will be coached and supported in storytelling, writing, and performance through workshops and rehearsals. The workshops, rehearsals, and the programs will all be virtual.

Apply by Feb 21st, 5:00 PM PST.
