Meet Daron!
Local Author Buyer
Hi!  I'm Daron and I run the Local Author Program at Tattered Cover.  I grew up in Denver and Tattered Cover has always been one of my favorite places to find a new book.

One of the best parts about my job is getting to add awesome local books to our shelves.  There are so many talented book writers and illustrators in our state and it makes me so happy when one of their books becomes a part of our store. Before joining the Tattered Cover I worked as a book designer and as a teacher.  The children's and YA sections of our store often inspires me with all the possibilities for bringing a beautiful book into the world.

I am always looking for new books from local talent-- you can find out more about the local author program at this page on our website:

Write a
Book Review!

Have you ever walked through a bookstore and seen little cards sticking out of shelves with book reviews? Have those reviews ever made you want to buy a book?

Those cards are called shelf talkers, and we're looking for teens to write shelf talkers for their favorite books. Your friends and family -- and a lot of total strangers -- can see your reviews on the shelves at Tattered Cover. How cool is that?

To write reviews, send an email to  Kristen Gilligan with "Teen Book Review" in the subject line.
Teen Writing

Teens come together to share and critique writing, often with a nationally published young adult author as a mentor and participant. An incredible opportunity for aspiring teen writers! Free and open exclusively to teens.

Meets that last Sunday of each month. This is free and open exclusively to teens. Email  Kristen to RSVP.
Teen Advisory Board

This is a group of book-loving teens who meet every month or so to plan and produce programming for anyone excited about YA literature.

Board members have the opportunity to use their creativity, social media skills, and enthusiasm for books to help with all aspects of event promotion, planning, and execution; introduce (and hang out with) authors at events; write book blurbs; give book talks; get FREE advanced reading copies; and even help select authors who come to the store for events or visit schools.

It's fun, rewarding, and a great resumé builder. Currently, we meet at our Aspen Grove and now our Colfax locations. For more info, read our  TAB Info & Application . To sign up for the TAB, email  Kristen Gilligan . (And tell your bookish friends!)

Host an Author for Free at Your School!

I mean, who doesn't love a school assembly? Seriously though, Tattered Cover can bring an author into your school to speak to smaller groups of English or writing classes, or a full school-wide assembly.

The best part is that's there no cost to the school. If this sounds interesting, just connect us with your school librarian or principal.

YA Books We Love
by Zach Hines

"In a society like our own, humans are given nine lives to help with overpopulation. The choice is yours whether you burn (suicide) or medically die. Julian has never burned in his life and has never wanted to. However, when something arises with the rebirthing system, Julian is left with no choice but to burn to be able to solve the mystery. This book is engaging and hard to put down. Readers will easily fall in love with characters and dive into the plot." -- Genevieve R., Euclid Middle School in Littleton, CO
by Gretchen McNeil

"#murdertrending is a captivating mix of horror, mystery and romance. Full of surprising plot twists at every turn. I would have liked to have less cussing between the characters as it distracts from what the characters are really saying." -- Student at Crown Pointe Academy in Westminster, CO
by Lauren James

"Romy, The Loneliest Girl in the Universe, is the only person left awake (and alive) on a spaceship in deep space destined to colonize Earth II. When she finds out NASA has sent an even faster ship that will catch up to her, she is overjoyed. Romy had my attention from the beginning and I flew through these pages to find out what happened. Read if you like suspenseful science fiction with a dollop of romance thrown in. -- Toni, School Librarian at Chatfield Senior High in Littleton, CO

Legendary: A Caraval Novel by Stephanie Garber (on shelves now).

A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win. After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister's. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever. Welcome, welcome to Caraval...the games have only just begun.
Stephanie Garber   loves Disneyland because it’s the one place on earth where she feels as if the fantastical stories she loves to write about could actually come to life. She is the #1  New York Times  and internationally bestselling author of  Caraval  and  Legendary .
