Last month, I, our Gift Buyer, and our co-owner Kristen Gilligan went to the Las Vegas Gift Show. We are always first and foremost a bookstore, but we love providing our customers with the option of finding an educational game, a fun puzzle, or any gift that brings a child joy.
Among the many things we're excited to share with you in the coming months, we found some great, small puzzles and brain games that are perfect to add on to a book selection, as well as a new-to-us kids company that makes matching puzzles that are ideal for littles just beginning to develop hand-eye coordination.

Picture Book of the Month...
by Corinna Luyken
"'My heart is a shadow, a light, and a guide. Closed or open...I get to decide.' Corinna Luyken is one of the most exciting illustrators to appear in the past few years, and this book--with its perfectly simple text--shares a message we could all stand to hear: your heart can guide you if you let it; love can be shared if you're open to it, and it's never too late to change. It's an affirmation
and
a love letter, and the ideal gift to share with your loved ones, young
or
old." --

On shelves 2/12...
by Dianne Touchell
"This book is about a 10-year-old boy whose father is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The boy, Foster, experiences drastic changes in his family dynamics and in himself, too. I liked the frankness of the writing and feel it would appeal to children who are going through a similar situation with a family member. However, Foster character feels much younger than 10, and readers who are looking for a happy ending will be disappointed. If you're looking for realistic fiction for students who may be enduring a hardship and want a relatable character, then this is the book to choose! --

On shelves 2/19...
by Kamilla Benko
"In this fantasy story we meet two adventurous girls. Claire and Sophie are sisters and found a secret world when they climb up a ladder in their Great Aunt Dinna's fireplace. One night Sophie went missing and Claire went looking for her sister. She went up the ladder to the secret world. Meeting a bunch of cool people that became friends on the way that helped her find Sophie. When she found her sister she found out that she is the Princess of Arden. I really liked this book because I loved all the different and cool personalities of all the characters. I love all the adventure in all the characters and what I loved the most was all the unexpected turns and events." --
