Dear Tau Alumni and Parents,

This is an exciting time to be a Kappa Sig at the University of Texas. In the past year, we initiated the largest pledge class in the history of the Tau Chapter, expanded our campus leadership and philanthropic involvement, witnessed the dedication of the new Warren Residence Hall, and celebrated Bob “Daddy-O” Wade ’62 as Tau Man of the Year and Bert “Tito” Beveridge ’81 as Kappa Sigma International Man of the Year.

As head of the rush team last summer, I have a special connection to the pledge class of 2017. I’ve been blown away by their strong work ethic and their great spirit of camaraderie. As a class, and under the direction of our philanthropy chair Will Cook '14, they helped raise more than $23,000 for Horns for Heroes, gathered more than six truckloads of clothes and distributed them to a local charity, and donated time and resources to the City of Austin First Responders on the anniversary of 9/11 to show appreciation for all they do to keep us safe.

As an older brother of a member of Pledge Class 2017, a former rush chair, and now a brother to each of them, I couldn’t be more proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing what they will accomplish in the future.

Kappa Sigma has a strong and positive presence at the University of Texas. Tau brother Peter Driscoll ‘15 was elected as university wide representative of the UT student body. Driscoll also serves as president of UT’s Interfraternity Council and Tau brother Blaise Bucey '15 serves as vice president.  We also remain strong and well represented among The Texas Silver Spurs and The Texas Cowboys.
Several Tau brothers last year formed a new organization called Longhorn Kiva, a McCombs-affiliated student organization that raises funds through a variety of philanthropic events in order to provide loans to small businesses, families and individuals in underdeveloped countries. As Kappa Sigs, we know it’s important to honor past traditions while also looking ahead to help meet the needs of a changing world. I feel blessed that we have the opportunity to do both.

I want to express our gratitude to all of you who have given your time, talent, and financial resources to help build the Warren Residence Hall. With its completion, you have provided the Tau Chapter the finest living, dining, social, and recreational facilities of any fraternity on the UT campus.
Finally, I would add that it’s a great honor to be a Tau Kappa Sig because of the many outstanding alumni we look up to. Last year’s Tau Man of the Year Bob “Daddy-O” Wade and Kappa Sigma Man of the Year Tito Beveridge are just two examples of Kappa Sigs who have accomplished amazing things in their careers while still remaining true to themselves and those around them. We feel fortunate to continue the proud legacy of the Kappa Sigma Tau Chapter. Thank you for your support and inspiration.
