Our first “Name That Sig” photo challenge was met with enthusiastic response. The winners who correctly identified all four sigs in last month’s photo challenge are: George Cox ‘70, Stan Fox ‘72, Steve Horn ‘73, Jay Piper ‘73, John Ross ‘69, and Loyd Wright ‘75. Jay Kelley ‘78 and Bill Zwiener ‘73 identified three out of four sigs in the photo.

Some of the finest young men on the UT campus are Kappa Sigs and Parker Donaldson ’15 is one of them. Parker served as Grand Master of Ceremonies last year and worked hard to help make rush 2017 a success. This summer Parker will be on another quest, riding a bike from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska to raise money for cancer research. I encourage you to read his letter below and make a contribution to his effort. Giving back to the community is an important part of being a Kappa Sig, so let’s support him on this mission.

Parker Donaldson’s Ride for Cancer Research
|
|
Dear Tau Friends and Family,
My name is Parker Donaldson, and I am a member of the 2015 Pledge Class and former Grand Master of Ceremonies. This summer, I will be riding a bike from The University of Texas at Austin to Anchorage, Alaska with seventy-six other UT students. Together, we are part of Texas 4000 for Cancer, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been supporting cancer research and support services for 14 years as the longest annual charity bike ride in the world. During this 70-day journey, we will ride over 4,500 miles to Alaska. Since it’s founding in 2004, Texas 4000 has raised more than $7 million, which has funded cancer research projects at MD Anderson Cancer Center, the UT Biomedical Engineering Department, and survivorship programs at the Cancer Navigation Center to name a few.
“I ride for…” is how we start every Texas 4000 meeting. Everyone has their own story and reason for deciding to embark on this seemingly impossible journey. I ride for my grandfather, Marshall Greenberg. Grandpa Marshall passed away from colon cancer just two years after my mom graduated from UT. Even though I never got to meet him, my mom tells me that we have very similar personalities. My grandpa was an architect, owned his own company, and even built the house that my mom and all of her siblings grew up in. In fact, my grandma recently told me that she was giving me the original blueprints of the house because she knew how much I enjoyed looking at them as a kid. Marshall Greenberg was a loving husband, a caring father, a creative architect, and he would’ve been an amazing grandfather.
We are biking for those who cannot, and for those who live daily with the possibility that they may not be able to do so tomorrow.
