Best Wishes and Thank You to Leslie Reithmiller
Program Administrator Leslie Reithmiller has been an integral part of the Tax Section since 2018. We are sad to see her leave—and we will miss her tremendously—but wish her well in her new role as Assistant to The Florida Bar President. Leslie and Bar leaders have implemented a transition plan to ensure that the work and initiatives of the Tax Section continue with as little disruption possible. Leslie will be working one-on-one with the section’s new administrator as soon as that role is assigned and she will be available for ongoing support as the new program administrator learns the ins and outs of the section.
In an email, Leslie wrote, "I can’t tell you how much I value the time I’ve had with you all as your program administrator. My introduction to The Florida Bar almost three years ago was largely through the lens of the Tax Section and its activities. You all were so incredibly gracious and kind to me as the 'new kid on the block' during those first several months, and I’m happy to have played a small part in the great work you do. I respect you deeply for your dedication to the Tax Section and for the wonderful people you are. Being surrounded by folks smarter than me these last few years has made me better professionally and personally."
Congratulations, Leslie, and thank you for your expertise, creativity, professionalism and dedication to the Tax Section. We will miss you!

The best thing you can do to improve your mental health and wellness is to invest in yourself. You are worth it, and The Florida Bar Mental Health and Wellness Center is available free of charge to help you. Please, take five minutes today to visit the wellness center. If you learn one thing that helps you or someone you know improve their mental health and wellness, then today would be a highly successful day!
The two main goals of the section's MHWI will be (1) to inform you of the many wonderful mental health and wellness resources that are already available to you (e.g., The Florida Bar Mental Health and Wellness Center), and (2) to create original resources that are specifically relevant to Tax Section members. The MHWI will seek to provide you with support for comprehensive wellness including mental health, nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, sleep, and other important health needs. Please contact section consultant Lisa Tipton at [email protected] if you would like to be added to the MHWI mailing list. Please email Christopher Callahan or Dana Apfelbaum if you would like to actively participate in developing the MHWI.

2021 National Tax Moot Court Competition
|
|
The time for the 2021 National Tax Moot Court Competition is fast approaching. Please help the competition by serving as a judge!
Given the current environment caused by COVID-19 and the general social distancing guidelines set out by the CDC, the Tax Section is joining with Stetson University College of Law to conduct the first ever virtual National Tax Moot Court Competition for 2021. While we are still finalizing some of the details, we anticipate that the competition will be held through a Zoom meeting format. While many individuals have become familiar with Zoom meetings, we also plan to have a “judges only” orientation to discuss the new virtual competition format and rules (at a date and time TBD).
The competition brings together (virtually) 16 teams from law schools around the country to compete on a tax-related topic. It will be held virtually from April 1-2, 2021. Serving as a judge is a very rewarding experience and it involves a minimal time commitment. For those willing to serve, we will provide you with a copy of the problem and a bench brief to assist you in preparing for your service as a judge.
Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit will be provided.
Please volunteer to judge any of the following oral argument rounds (feel free to sign up for more than one round):
Rounds/dates, judge arrival times and approximate departure times:
Round 1: Thursday, April 1 (morning), 8:45 AM–12:15 PM
Round 2: Thursday, April 1 (afternoon), 1:15 PM–4:30 PM
Round 3: Friday, April 2 (morning), 8:15 AM–12:30 PM
Round 4: Friday, April 2 (afternoon), 1:30 PM–4:30 PM
|
|
If you would like to serve as a judge for the competition or have any questions, please reply to this email or contact us at [email protected] or (813) 506-5137. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Justin Wallace
