Tax Time is Here Again!
Do taxes get more complicated each year, or does it just seem that way?
CRA has increased receipt and filing requirements in the past few years. For example, you are now required to include real estate transactions on the tax return, even when selling your principal residence, which is tax free.
As well, for transactions in a non-registered account, a T5008 is being issued to ensure all securities transactions are noted that could trigger a taxable event. Please note, many of these transactions may not be triggering any tax, and often with special private managed portfolios, these transactions are already counted in the tax packages. Therefore, it's important to ensure that you are not counting these items twice.
For more information on the tax receipts and how to treat them, read our recent Tax Update.
What else do you need to know:
T4RRIF's, T4RSP's, T5's have all been mailed.
Most were mailed the week of Feb. 24th, so please check your mail. We will be happy to create duplicates if needed.
T3's have until March 31, 2019 to be mailed.
We are also happy to assist with getting necessary receipts to your accountant. Let us know what we can do to make life easier at this time of year.
All clients, but especially those with Non-registered account, please ensure that you have all receipts before submitting your tax return. It's easy to make a quick call to our office and verify with Janice or Andrek; This is much easier than having to re-file your return a few weeks later.
Receipt information comes from many sources, and therefore, you can receive more than 1 receipt for each account.

Market Update:
The markets have had one of the most volatile weeks in the past 10 years. We knew something would come, but we didn't know when or what would be the trigger.
There is a lot of fear driving the markets at the moment, but here's some information based on fact, that can assist you in better understanding the options and the reactions.
How did the Developed markets World Index react to previous global health epidemics?
Emotionally-driven decisions can have a significant impact on your portfolio. When we sell and buy with emotions, we are trying to time to market and at most times we miss out on the
top trading days
In fact, in the past 5 days, we've seen both the largest down day, and the largest up day in the DOW that we've seen since January 2019.
Corona Virus FAQ
Rob Carrick mentioned this past week that he never wished he'd sold more when these market corrections occur; he has always wished he's bought more.

Events
April 8th: Join us to learn more about Creating a Legacy to enhance your life.
Do you want to ensure their retirement years are "fulfilled" not just filled?
Do you want to make a difference in the legacy you leave?
A legacy can be as simple as ensuring the cottage stays in the family, or creating a Charitable Foundation!
The idea is what are your values, what are your ideas, and how can you make it happen.
We will have a workshop sharing many ideas that have helped people to ensure their legacy has the most impact, both now and when they are gone. Exercises to help better understand what's important, and ideas of how you can impact others, and do that for the good of your family.
What's surprising is most people have the capacity to do this, they just don't know where to start.
This is an inter-active Workshop, with very limited seating.
Book now so you won't be disappointed.
Please feel free to pass these e-mails on to contacts, friends & family who may find them helpful.
