The GAIN Philosophy
one
It's simple really:

Members helping members through economies of scale. Two is better than one. Six is better than two. That's how we started; with six non-profit organizations and we kept growing. The growth has allowed us to continue to better leverage our buying power in order to retain optimum preferred pricing and value for our members. Why stand alone or in a small group when you can stand among hundreds and reap the benefits and rewards? We've done the heavy lifting for you. As we continue to evolve and bring you additional value-adds we will always stay focused on your needs. Have a product or service our national procurement services program does not yet offer? Let us know by sending an email to [email protected] or by contacting a GAIN team member.

Taxability of Your Employee Benefit Plan

Each year as employers complete T4s for their employees, we are asked about the taxability of the various benefits in their group benefits plan. When setting up a group benefits plan, it is important for employers to understand the manner in which this affects employee payroll deductions.

The following explanation is offered to help you understand this area of the employee Group Benefit Program in Ontario. However, it should be noted that we do suggest you consult your accountant on all important taxation issues.

three The Recruitment Process - An investment in Organizational Excellence

No process in the life-cycle of an employee's engagement with an employer has as much influence on success as the effective matching of individual competence with expectations for outcomes. Certainly, clear delineation of goals and objectives, relevant metrics, a good review and feedback process and well-designed compensation and reward systems are all important factors in an employee's relationship with an employer. But in the absence of a good hiring process, none of these systems can make up for the gap between deliverables and deliverability that derives from an inappropriate matching of an individual to a job.

This essay, in two parts, will explore some of the key factors in a successful recruitment process. In the first part, this month, the preparatory stages of recruitment are discussed. Our issue next month will cover the execution of the interview and decision making stages.

Pillars of the Community

If you would like to be recognized in this section of our newsletter or website, please forward a short article to [email protected]. Your content can include an introduction to your organization to help generate awareness; it can give a history; highlight your mandate; or even give details of an event. It's your space. Articles should generally be in the neighborhood of about 700 characters (including spaces). Space is scalable, however. We would love to help highlight your organization and its initiatives!

PillarGirls Inc. of Durham
Girls growing up today continue to face considerable challenges. Most girls start out strong in life - they score higher in reading and writing, they tend to make friends more easily, and they have stronger verbal skills. But as they approach adolescence, girls start to struggle. Their mental health declines, their risk of sexual assault skyrockets, and they spend their days wading through a toxic soup of hyper-sexualized media that destroys their self-esteem. It's hard to believe that 78% of girls are unhappy with their bodies, that 1 in 4 girls will be the victim of childhood sexual abuse, or that 1 in 7 women live in poverty in Canada. But with YOU and Girls Inc. in her corner, we can change that!  Learn more about Girls Inc. of Durham >

tipTip of the Month - Are you financially prepared?

Did you know?

Of people surveyed, 22% of those who are financially prepared say they are more engaged in the workplace, and 21% are more likely to enjoy their work, and they are 16% more likely to say they are more productive at work. The same study showed that those who said they were financially unprepared take more sick days and are more than twice as likely to be distracted at work.
