Tay Township News & Notes
| |
I hope this message finds you in high spirits, good health, and thoroughly enjoying the beauty of July in wonderful Tay Township.
July has been a month filled with pride as we celebrate Canada. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Tay Canada Day Committee for organizing two memorable days of music, BBQs, artisans and a lively parade. This year's event had a record turnout, and $22,800 will be shared by seventeen charities, clubs and initiatives. Since 2011, The Tay Canada Day Celebrations have proudly raised $154,800 for charity.
Another special thank you goes out to the Port McNicoll Anglers and Hunters for hosting the 10th Annual Kids Fishing Derby. It was heartwarming to see our young ones enjoying a day of fishing and a delicious BBQ, thanks to the numerous volunteers who helped make this event a success.
July and August are the perfect time to enjoy so many outdoors activities within the Township including the Tay Shore Trail, volleyball and pickleball courts, baseball diamonds, or amazing parks, playgrounds and beaches. For a full list of the beautiful parks and open spaces in Tay Township visit tay.ca/parks.
In addition, throughout July and August, don't miss Music in the Park every Sunday afternoon. This family-friendly initiative aims to bring joy through music to our residents and visitors alike. Beach Water Testing
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit
| |
Did you know the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) tests the water quality at the following local beaches?
- Albert Street Beach
- Mackenzie Park Beach
- Magnus Beach
- Patterson Park Beach
- Waubaushene Beach
Between June and September (Labour Day weekend) the SMDHU collects water samples from public beaches within Simcoe and Muskoka. They test the water samples for levels of E. coli bacteria. When elevated levels of E. coli are present in the water samples, the beach may be posted with an advisory warning indicating it is unsafe for swimming, or the beach may be closed. Bacteria levels can increase in recreational beach water due to heavy rainfall, cloudy water, a large number of swimmers, a large number of birds, shallow water, wet sand, wind and high waves.
Bookmark this page and make sure to check the water quality before you head out for a swim!

Be a responsible pet owner and learn more about the licensing and control of dogs within the Township.
Tay Township has a two-dog limit and dogs are required to be immunized against rabies. Multi-year tags are available only for dogs with current valid immunization. Proof of up-to-date immunization and a completed application form are required before a tag will be issued.
Why license your dog?
- If your dog is lost or involved in an emergency, a license provides information needed to contact you.
- Lost dogs are returned home faster and spend less time in our care.
- It is a legal requirement, and you could be fined without a dog license.
For more information regarding canine control and dog tags please contact our Municipal Law Enforcement Team at 705-534-7248 and press option 2 or via email mleo@tay.ca.

Georgian Bay Forever
The Critical Catch Program
| |
The Critical Catch program is making a big impact by removing littered fishing lines and raising awareness about discarded gear. Just last year, they cleared an impressive 38.5km of fishing line from Georgian Bay Shores!
Let's do our part by bringing back all our gear (and those tasty fish) after a day on the water.
Learn more from The Critical Catch program.

Southern Georgian Bay Airboat Rescue Fundraising Update |
Nearly three years into their ambitious fundraising goal of $350,000, this group has raised an impressive $330,842 so far! These funds will be used to purchase an airboat for the Tay Fire and Emergency Services (TFES). An airboat would greatly assist TFES in performing rescues in adverse weather, water and ice conditions in both a safe and expedient manner.
This grassroots initiative, from making bracelets and apparel to pulling fire trucks, decorating smile cookies and pledges from community organizations, has been fuelled by the entire communities generosity. Help them cross the finish line, please consider donating online at www.sgbairboatrescue.com or visit the Township Municipal office. Donations over $50 are eligible for a tax receipt. Let's make this final push together!
