Tay Township News & Notes

October 2024

Message from the Mayor

As we embrace the beauty of fall in Tay Township, I find myself feeling especially grateful to call this community home. I hope you take a moment to enjoy the vibrant colors along the Tay Shore Trail—there's nothing quite like it this time of year!

October marks Local Government Week, a time when we celebrate the importance of municipal services. This year, I had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Bazinet’s Grade 5 class from St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School to our municipal office, where myself, Council, and our dedicated staff, taught the students about our roles and the teamwork that keeps Tay Township thriving. Their insightful questions were a reminder of the bright future we have ahead!

As we prepare for the winter months, our Parks crews have begun the important task of winterizing our parks. This includes closing washrooms, removing waste receptacles, tending to gardens, and collecting leaves. These efforts are essential to ensure our parks are in great shape for spring. For more details on this process, please visit tay.ca/parks.

Another reminder is that winter parking restrictions begin November 15, 2024. Parking is not permitted on or within 10 feet of roads between the hours of 3 a.m. and 12 p.m. We appreciate your cooperation. You are helping to make the Township snow clearing safer, more efficient and effective. For more information please visit tay.ca/winterparking.

Lastly, I invite you to join us on November 4th as we raise the Poppy Flag, marking the start of the Royal Canadian Poppy Campaign. Running from October 25 to November 11, this campaign supports our veterans and their families, with local donations staying in our community. I also encourage everyone to pause on November 11th, at the 11th hour, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. For a list of local Remembrance Day ceremonies, visit tay.ca/events.

Thank you for being a part of this wonderful community.

Until next time, Mayor Ted Walker twalker@tay.ca

Fall Colours Bloom in Tay Township

The Tay Township Horticultural Committee has been hard at work, transforming our communities into a vibrant tapestry of fall colours! All entrances across our four communities are beautifully adorned.

A special shout-out goes to the amazing volunteers who made this possible:

  • Nadine Woods for her stunning display in Port McNicoll
  • Wendy Cairncross & Carol Matthews for their creative decorations in Waverley
  • Talpines Association members for their unique fall presentation in Waubaushene

It’s the dedication and creativity of volunteers like these that make Tay a wonderful place to live. Thank you all for your time and efforts!

Local Government Week

Local Government Week is an opportunity for people of all ages to increase their civic awareness, and help everyone gain an understanding of municipal government and its impact on everyday lives.

To help kick off the week Grade 5 students from St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School were invited to the Municipal Office where they heard from the Mayor, Council and Staff about their roles and how working together is key to providing the services, programs and facilities that make Tay Township a vibrant and thriving community.

On behalf of the Mayor, Council and Staff thank you to Ms. Bazinet’s Grade 5 class for celebrating the key role that local governments play in helping to define the character, priorities, amenities and physical make-up of Ontario’s diverse communities.

Preparing Parks for Winter

Each Fall, in the weeks following the Thanksgiving long weekend, Township Parks crews begin the process of preparing our Parks for winter.

Proper winterization is crucial to prevent damage and ensure that park amenities remain in good condition for when they re-open in the spring. Key tasks include closing park washrooms, removing waste receptacles, maintaining gardens, and collecting leaves. Each of these actions plays a vital role in preserving our parks and enhancing the overall cleanliness and safety of our community spaces.

For a more detailed overview of the winterization process, check out this official notice. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our parks beautiful and welcoming! We look forward to seeing everyone back in the spring!
