Tay Township News & Notes

September 2024

Message from the Mayor

Happy Fall Tay Township! Welcome to crisp mornings and vibrant autumn colours.

On September 15, our amazing #TeamTay laced up to participate in the annual Terry Fox Run in the Heart of Georgian Bay. Thank you to all the staff who came out to represent our Team with energy and heart, helping to keep Terry's legacy alive while coming together for a great cause.

On September 21, I had the pleasure of attending the Martyr's Shrine Fall Gala. The event helped raise funds to support capital growth projects, as the Shrine prepares to celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2025-2026.

We also held two significant flag raisings at the Municipal Office this month. On September 4, we raised the flag for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in partnership with Candlelighters Simcoe and on September 30, we gathered to raise the Every Child Matters flag in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. I encourage all residents to take a moment to learn and reflect on the impact of the residential school system and explore ways we can move forward together. To read the proclamations on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation please visit tay.ca/news.

September also saw our Operations team kick off the 2024 Road Improvement Program. This program is part of our long-term plan, helping to ensure a timely, sustainable, and economically responsible approach to maintaining and replacing local roadways throughout the township. You can view the full list of roads included in the 2024 program at tay.ca/construction.

Lastly, a reminder we want to hear from you! The Township is seeking community input on Levels of Service, across all departments. The goal is to ensure that services provided by the Township meet the community's needs and expectations. Your feedback will play a crucial role in helping us make informed decisions about future investment in the Township. I encourage you to fill out the survey before October 10 at tay.ca/input.

As we transition into fall, I wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving. May this season bring you warmth, gratitude and time spent with loved ones.

Until next time, Mayor Ted Walker twalker@tay.ca

Township Raises Flag for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, Council, Staff and members of the community gathered at the Tay Township Municipal Office for a flag raising to recognize and commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Residents are encouraged to wear orange on September 30 to raise awareness of the very tragic legacy of residential schools, and to honour the thousands of Survivors. Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day that honours the children who survived Indian Residential Schools and remembers those who did not.
