Teachable Moments - July 2016
A Newsletter for radKIDS' Parents and Families
Happy 4th of July!

There is nothing better than watch the excitement and awe in our children's eyes as the watch the night sky with anticipation of what is about to literally "explode" in front of their eyes.

The video below is a fun look at the science behind the colors and sound they will be seeing as they watch the fireworks and, with your parental guidance, it provides a great opportunity (aka: Teachable Moment) to talk with your children about just how powerful (and dangerous) fireworks can be.
Did you know that a sparkler can reach a 1,200 degrees (F), which is hot enough to melt Gold?
Firework-related injuries cause 200 children and adults to go to the emergency room each day in the month around the 4th of July holiday, reports the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

All of us in the radKIDS wish you and your family a wonderful, happy, 4th of July and we remind to

Valuable Resource for Parents:
TheFBI Child ID App

Like many other parents, we've all experienced the overwhelming panic of losing sight of a child for a few moments while shopping or at a crowded event.
What if your child is missing? Do you know what to do? Who to call? If you have a traditional "child ID kit" can you find it? Is the photo and info current? Is this the time you want to be updating it?

The FBI Child ID App, now availab le for iPhone and Andro id smart phones, is an essential FREE app all parents should have. Simply download the FREE app from the App Store on iTunes.

No one ever wants to think about something bad happening to their child. This app is a great way to be prepared should the unthinkable ever occur. Using the app, you can show pictures of your kids and provide physical identifiers such as height and weight to security or police officers ON THE SPOT.

You can also quickly and easily e-mail the information to authorities with a few clicks. The app also includes tips on keeping children safe as well as specific guidance on what to do in those first few crucial hours after a child goes missing.

The user interface is so simple to use with just a few clicks and I can update my child's photo (and show what clothing (s)he's wearing) before we head to Disney Parks, stadiums, and even school field trips.

Learn about this technology. Knowing how critical minutes are when a child goes missing we recommend this for you and your family along with a comprehensive safety education program with physical skills training. As with all ID kits we hope you never have to use them.
