Been to an awesome PD session? Let your colleagues know about it in "Teachers' Top Picks!"

Last spring, we asked teachers all about PD. We got some great feedback about ways to make PD opportunities more prominent, such as the monthly at a glance previews. This year, we're also letting teachers shout out the best sessions to attend in a new spotlight section, called Teachers' Top Picks. Send us your suggestions throughout the year, and check the first Weekly of each month to see what your colleagues recommend. Submissions are due by August 17 for consideration in the September edition of Teachers' Top Picks.
Nobody does 901 better than SCS! Show it by using #SCSis901 on your social media pages!

Welcome home! Whether you've been in our District for years or you're brand new, you're always home at SCS! The #SCSis901 crew has been all over the city this summer reinforcing our identity: SCS is 901! We take pride in serving more than 100,000 students in our schools, being Shelby County's second largest employer and educating our community's best and brightest. We impact this community in so many ways, and the work we do is something we should all be proud of. If great things are happening in your classroom, school or community, we want to know! Let's show everyone that #SCSis901.
Treat 'yo self... to some SCS swag!

Now that you know what #SCSis901 is all about, here is the answer to the #1 question of the summer: How can I get some of that cool #SCSis901 swag? We're giving away SCS swag at exclusive pop-up events around the city and District, so follow our social media channels (at the bottom of this email) to keep tabs on where the Swag Squad is hosting the next giveaway. In the meantime, we're giving 901 swag bags to the first five school employees who submit suggestions for our new Teachers' Top Picks PD spotlight. Keep reading the Weekly for more giveaway contests all year!
Science teachers, we've got shiny new books with your name on 'em!

This school year brings lots of new things to our District- one of them is a new Science textbook! Last school year, our Curriculum & Instruction team worked directly with SCS teachers to identify the best Science texts for our schools. Over 2018-19 Science texts are now available online for all grade levels and subjects. Check out access codes and more details about your classroom texts here.
Get ahead of the game! Volunteer to pilot our upcoming First Grade Portfolio.

Next school year ( we know, we're only three days into this one!), SCS will adopt the First Grade Portfolio, which will account for 35 percent of growth measures for TEM scores. The Employee Performance and Support team will lead trainings throughout the 2018-19 school year to prepare teachers for next year's rollout. Now is your chance to get ahead of the game in preparation for the 2019-20 District-wide launch. Volunteer to pilot the portfolio early while spots last (only available on a first come, first serve basis). Check out additional information about the First Grade Portfolio here.
iReady is back and better than ever!

That's right, iReady got a facelift over the summer! The new iReady interface includes a faster, simpler teacher experience, streamlined navigation and all new class and student reports. Our friends at iReady have some resources to help you navigate the new layout, too:

You and your students will be able to access iReady the same way as last year – via Clever at Clever login credentials remain the same as last year. The first Fall Diagnostic Window runs August 20 - September 7.
