ACT Family Night is THIS THURSDAY @ 6 p.m. (NEW)

Teachers, please remind your students and their families that Virtual ACT Family Night is Thursday, January 7, 6-7:30 p.m. Families will learn about the structure of the test, resources available to prepare for the test, test dates and information about how to register for the test. We will also share information about how test scores are used in college admission and obtaining scholarships. This event will provide SCS families an opportunity to learn more about ACT preparation strategies to meet or exceeded the test readiness benchmarks.

Read To Achieve with the Memphis Grizzlies! (NEW)

The Memphis Grizzlies Read to Achieve Program (RTA) is in its 20th year and is an excellent way to encourage elementary school students grades 3-5 to read and develop a love for reading. Students must read a minimum of six books in six weeks. Books should be at or above reading level of each student and must align with the book theme of the week. The Grizzlies, along with the support of sponsors International Paper and KPMG, are excited to provide this program for students throughout the Mid-South. Register your school today!
It’s time for the annual ACT-SO competition!

ACT-SO is an acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics. It is sponsored by the NAACP to encourage African-American and minority youth to aspire toward excellence. ACT-SO includes 32 competitions in STEM, Humanities, Business and Performing, Visual and Culinary Arts. For over 40 years, the mission of ACT-SO has been to prepare, recognize and reward youth of color who exemplify scholastic and artistic excellence. The Orpheum will host a virtual workshop via Zoom on Theater in the Social Justice Curriculum Tuesday, January 26. This workshop explores ways in which a class or community can use theatrical works, traditional and devised, to facilitate a more in-depth and impactful conversation on issues of social justice. SCS student health clinics are now offering flu shots.

In addition to a wide range of minor medical services, our student health clinics now offer flu shots. SCS operates three school-based health clinics with trained medical staff from Christ Community Health Services. Our clinics provide services mostly during school hour, but also offer after-hours service and weekend options. The clinics work with students' personal insurance providers for billing of services; however, fees may apply if a student is not insured. No student are denied treatment due to lack of insurance or inability to pay. Visits are available by appointment
