(NEW) "The Whitelaw Edition" Talk Show offers more support for SCS teachers on instructional practices!

"The Whitelaw Edition" Talk Show outlines how SCS will continue to improve instruction for students. We want to continue to expand our work by deepening our knowledge of the new standards with many focused PD opportunities using the Common Core Companion. We will continue by increasing instructional effectiveness through a deep study of Gradual Release. The video explains strategies and resources to increase student achievement and how we will execute the work across the District by completing the same planning documents and content using a consistent language. This will help teachers improve their understanding of standards-based instruction by engaging in a finite set of four Instructional Practices:

  • Practice I - Performance-Based Objectives
  • Practice II - General & Content-Specific Vocabulary
  • Practice III - Gradual Release Responsibility & the 5 E’s
  • Practice IV - Write & Manipulatives
(NEW) Please review these important reminders and updates regarding grading protocols.

Regardless of the type of learning environment provided to our students, teachers should continue to follow the grading protocols released during the 2019-20 school year. However, please ensure students receive credit within their class participation grade for time spent using intervention software, such as i-Ready, Edgenuity, or similar programs. Whenever a student completes at least 45 minutes on any day for ELA or Math, a 100 should be included as a class participation grade for the relevant subject area on that day.
(NEW) Check out the latest i-Ready updates to support your students!

Next Steps with i-Ready after Diagnostic:

Online Instruction Reminders:
  • Per i-Ready research, quality and quantity of personalized online i-Ready instruction matter. Reaching at least 30 minutes per week of online instruction, but also with average pass rates of 70% or greater, has historically shown the greatest student gains. You can monitor these fields in the Personalized Instruction Report in the i-Ready Reports Tab.
