Fundamentals of Indigenous Education and Anti-Racism for Faculty and Staff

Last spring, Centennial piloted the Fundamentals of Indigenous Education and Anti-Racism (Fundamentals) program with managers, who overwhelmingly reported development of deeper awareness, knowledge and increased capacity to promote more anti-racist workplace environments.

This fall, the College’s seven divisions are coordinating enrolment for employees to experience this unique learning opportunity developed by Centennial’s Innovation, Inclusion, Reconciliation and Healing (IIRH) Portfolio, in partnership with Nakanagis Consulting, an Indigenous-owned company, and with support of the Strategic Talent Management team. The program offers ways to build shared awareness and common language with which to dialogue, problem solve and learn as a college community, and it supports Centennial in pursuit of the institutional goal to “Embody Indigenization, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion”. Fundamentals consists of digital content and a synchronous conversation to strengthen knowledge and awareness in six essential areas:

  • Anti-Indigenous racism
  • Anti-Black racism
  • Anti-Asian racism
  • Understanding Race, Racism and White Supremacy
  • Microaggressions – Harmful, interpersonal actions
  • Bystander intervention

For information about participation and registration, please speak with your chair, coordinator, manager or other team leader.

For more information about the program content, please contact IIRH.

Teaching and Learning Innovation Digest re/TURNS!

A road leading to Centennial College's soon to be Building A, at Progress Campus. The road is paved with fresh cement and there are trees, light poles and grass surrounding the empty road. On the right hand side there is a sign that is yellow with an arrow turned around and at the bottom of the sign is the word 're/Turn'.

The Centre for Faculty Development and Teaching Innovation is excited to bring you a special and unique edition of our annual Teaching & Learning Innovation Digest. Focused on the theme of the return to in-person learning, the seventh edition features an unprecedented 37 contributions from faculty, staff and students including scholarly essays, reflections, podcasts, poetry, art, photography and dance in an interactive online format. You can see, hear, read or immerse yourself in the rich conversations, and in especially the diverse and powerful array of student voices that we proudly welcome this time around. Sincere thanks to the editorial board, contributing editors Dr. Sowmya Kishore and Dr. Zabedia Nazim from CFDTI, and two student collaborators, Fabian Soto Palacio from Software Engineering (SETAS) for visual design, layout and graphics and Shannon Attard, graduate of Communications—Professional Writing (SCMAD) for copy editing.

Engage in the interactive content online or view the PDF version of the digest.
