The North Carolina DECA State Action Team is in full swing and ready to make this year one for the win! We have been working hard to produce some prize worthy new programs, such as the DECA Diamond Chapter of the Year, and goals for North Carolina DECA. To further understand all of this and who we are, here are some quick summaries about each of your state officers.
Reed Conner: State President
-
"
I tend to find myself always desiring to be outside doing either fly fishing, backpacking, or simply being with friends. Most of these friends I mentioned are ones I have made through my involvement in Student Council, Young Life, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Swimming, and of course, DECA. Having the privilege to be a leader in all of these activities has helped shape who I am. I greatly appreciate everything I have been blessed with and all that I have come to learn from my busy yet priceless life. As NC DECA President, I hope to produce other leaders within our amazing state so that they can taste a piece of the pie that I eat everyday. As Uncle Ben from Spiderman once said, "With great power comes great responsibility." I could not agree more and encourage all of NC DECA to take that as a challenge. Keep moving forward, make a difference, and always look for an adventure."

We encourage all NC DECA chapters to be "In It to Win It" by competing to become the 2017 NC DECA Diamond Chapter of the Year and Own Your Future!

Sloane Yates: Triad Region VP
- "I am so excited to work with the Triad Region this year by improving communication and increasing involvement for every chapter member. When I am not devoting my time to DECA, I enjoy doing gymnastics and pole vaulting. In the future, I hope to be an anesthesiologist in the United States Navy. I cannot wait to meet and get to know all of the NC DECA members this year, and help them to be In it to Win it!"
Josh Scott: Blue Ridge Region VP
- " I always look for the adventure, I have never enjoyed sitting idle inside or doing nothing. I enjoy traveling, photography, studying history, and being with family and friends. My friends and I share a passion for photography, we have traveled all across the United States photographing many different things. The people in my life have influenced who I am today, I was raised on the ideology of "To those whom much is given, much is expected." I am honored to be North Carolina's Blue Ridge Region Vice-President, I love to hear about the success of North Carolina DECA members. I know that North Carolina DECA has the ability to do amazing things, I cannot wait to see what this state is capable of."

Andrew Weatherman: Dixie Pines Region VP
- "I am defined by my hair - the "fro" as people call it. Just like it sounds, the fro is a big, floppy mess of...well, mess. Enough about my hair. I live by the motto "work hard, play hard" (not really, I just googled some clique quote): I put in full effort in the classroom, school community, and soccer field. I hold various leadership positions throughout my school, and I am a member of several honor societies. An avid Charlotte 49ers fan, I spend a chunk of my free time cheering on the Niners, on the court, and on the field. As a first-year DECA member last year, I competed and placed in PMK and the Start-up Business Plan event. As an NC DECA state officer, my goal is for members to realize that potential is just an abstract thought - an idea that beckons to be invalidated and rewritten. The sky is not the limit, it has never been, the limit is what you say it is. Pioneer a new beginning by starting at the end."

Jamison Koch: Coastal Region VP
-
"In my free time I love doing pottery, volunteering in my community, and looking for new opportunities for my passion of photography. As an officer in DECA, I enjoy socializing and meeting members who are as eager to learn as I was. Through DECA, I hope to inspire our members just as past state officers have inspired me."
Haylee Hicks: Metrolina Region VP
- "Aside from my passion for DECA, I am a Varsity Cheerleading Captain, involved in multiple clubs and honor societies and am a leader in my church and community. I love to travel, drink coffee and spend time with my friends and family. I have been dedicated to DECA since my freshman year and I am so fortunate to spend my last year as a high school division member, serving as a NC DECA State Officer. It is important that members know what it means to be a well-rounded DECA student and get the most out of their DECA career and I look forward to leading NC DECA through a "winning" year!"

We hope that these brief introductions help NC DECA members truly understand what we are all about. This year, we would love to make as many visits to NC DECA chapters as possible so that we can work hand-in-hand with our members on topics such as competition, leadership, and community service. Please feel free to contact any of the State Action Team and make sure to follow all of us on social media. Let's make this DECA year a show worthy one!
