The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I-SPARC) is pleased to announce the Player Selection Camp for Team BC's participation in the 2020 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC), May 9 - 16, 2020 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The top indigenous male and female hockey players are invited to participate in the 2020 Team BC Player Selection Camp where players will be evaluated and selected over a three (3) day period by coaching staff. Team BC is seeking 20 male and 20 female athletes to represent BC at the NAHC.

Players must meet the following criteria to be eligible for participation in the NAHC:
  • Resident of BC and of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Inuit, Metis). Acceptable proof of ancestry includes Status card, Treaty card, Provincial Metis card or Inuit or Inuvialuit identification. For those with a card, a formal Declaration of Ancestry may be completed with supporting documentation (form available upon request).
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with BC Hockey. Players not registered with BC Hockey for the 2019-2020 season may register via this camp for an additional $40 fee.
  • Male: Midget age for the 2019 - 2020 season (born 2002 - 2004). Bantam aged players (born 2005 - 2006) are eligible to try out. *
  • Female: Midget age players for the 2019 - 2020 season (born 2002 - 2004). Bantam aged players (born 2005 - 2006) are eligible to try out. *

* While this program is primarily for Midget aged hockey players (born 2002 - 2004), Bantam aged players are eligible to compete at the NAHC. As a competitive selection camp, Midget and Bantam players will be competing among one another for a position on the team. For safety reasons, Bantam aged players (born 2005 - 2006) may register for the camp but must be pre-approved by the coaching staff before they can participate in the camp. The coaching staff will consider the player's size and competitive experience in rendering a decision.

The registration fee is $120 per player and includes a Team BC Selection Camp jersey. Pre-registration is mandatory as no walk-ups will be accepted. For more information and to register, please visit www.teambcnahc.com . Registration is open until 4:00pm Friday, March 13, 2020.
The NAHC provides a forum for elite Aboriginal youth hockey players from across Canada. The event aids in fostering cultural unity and pride while celebrating the athletic abilities of Aboriginal athletes from across the country. Team BC in represented at the championship by one (1) male team and one (1) female team which are comprised of the top youth Indigenous players from across the province.

I-SPARC is consortium of the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, First Nations Health Authority and Metis Nation BC. As the stewards of BC's Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Strategy, I-SPARC works with First Nations, Metis Charted communities, Friendship Centres, schools and other sport and physical activity stakeholders to deliver community-based programs designed to promote active lifestyles and support the desire for transformative change in the health and well-being of Indigenous communities, families and individuals across BC.
