Eastern Tech students invited to White House to meet with federal officials and cybersecurity experts | |

Six Eastern Technical High School students had a rare opportunity on April 11. They visited the White House to meet with high-level federal officials and cybersecurity experts from the public and private sector at the “Unlocking Cybersecurity Career Pathways to Success and Global Security” event.
“The small gathering was designed to showcase the importance of cybersecurity education programs and how we are working to address the needs of the cybersecurity workforce,” says Dr. Michael E. Grubbs, BCPS coordinator of Career and Technical Education. “BCPS was asked by the U.S. Department of Education to bring high school students and educators in cybersecurity pathways. The students selected by my office were chosen based on their high placement in the recent Lockheed Martin CYBERQUEST competition."

Northwest Academy of Health Sciences students visit the National Museum of Dentistry

In a new blog post, Precious C. Uguru, a Grade 6 student at Northwest Academy of Health Sciences, writes about a field trip that she and other health science magnet students took to the National Museum of Dentistry in Baltimore.
After describing several exhibits, Precious writes: "The trip to the National Museum of Dentistry really widened my eyes to the fact that dentistry wasn’t just about teeth, but about the hundreds of thousands of people who contributed to what it is today."

In honor of the Class of 2023, BCPS is profiling one senior from each high school. A new profile will be posted each school day until Friday, May 19, the last day for seniors. These profiles highlight the intellectual and personal strengths of our seniors and their diversity.

Space available in BCPS summer music and dance camps

Registration continues for Baltimore County Public Schools’ Summer Dance Intensive and Summer Music Camp.
The registration deadline for both camps is Friday, May 12, and each camp is $125 per student (which includes a camp T-shirt). Both camps are open to BCPS students currently enrolled in Grades 5-12. Payment is due in full by the registration deadline. Transportation to and from each camp location will be provided at no additional charge. BCPS students and children of BCPS employees will receive enrollment priority. Additional requests may be considered if space allows.
The Summer Dance Intensive will be held from Monday, June 26, to Friday, June 30, from 9 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. daily, at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology and Perry Hall High School.
The Summer Music Camp will be held at Perry Hall High School on weekdays from Thursday, June 22, to Thursday, June 29, from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. daily.

The show also introduces students interning at Freestate Electric and St. Joseph Medical Center and includes the regular "Ask Dr. G" segment, in which Dr. Michael Grubbs, BCPS coordinator of career and technical education answers questions about CTE programs. | |

Parent University workshop: "How to Connect with Kids When They Shut Down"
Tuesday, Apr. 25, at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
In this virtual Parent University workshop, Mariposa Education will share with parents information about what is happening in children’s brains when they shut down and how common strategies to help often have the opposite effect. The workshop will also explore what parents can do to create the connections they seek with their children. Register online for the 12:30 p.m. Lunch and Learn session or the 6:30 p.m. session.

Join us via livestream for this year's "Champions for Children" event. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 19, at 4:45 p.m. at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology. The event will be livestreamed on the BCPS website, BCPS-TV (Comcast 73 and Verizon 34), and YouTube.
At the event, hosted by Jamie Costello of WMAR-TV, the Baltimore County Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year, and Assistant Principal of the Year for 2023-24 will be announced. In addition, the gala will also celebrate the “Rising Star” Teacher of the Year, Supervisory Leader of the Year, Supporting Services Employee of the Year, Transportation Champion, AFSCME Employee of the Year, Volunteer Champion, and Business Partner Champion.

Volunteer citizens sought to fill vacancy on Board of Education’s Ethics Review Panel
The Board of Education of Baltimore County is seeking an interested volunteer citizen to fill a vacancy on its Ethics Review Panel.
The panel serves as an advisory body to the Board to interpret its Ethics Code policies. The panel consists of five members appointed by the Board of Education.
To be eligible for consideration for this vacancy, an applicant must be a United States citizen who is a resident of Baltimore County; at least 18 years of age; not hold or be a candidate for any elected or appointed office; not be an incumbent member of the Board, an employee, or the spouse of such person, and not be a registered lobbyist for any organization that may create a conflict of interest.
Applicants interested in being considered for appointment to the Ethics Review Panel should send a completed application no later than May 11, 2023, to: Board of Education of Baltimore County, 6901 Charles Street, Towson, MD 21204 ATTN: Ethics Review Panel Vacancy. It will be my great honor this Wednesday to be joined by County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Board Chair Jane Lichter, and other county and BCPS leaders to celebrate some of the many outstanding individuals who contribute to the success of our students, schools, and school system.
Th Champions for Children event will be held at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, 938 York Road, in Towson on Wednesday, April 19, at 4:45 p.m. For those who cannot attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the BCPS website, BCPS-TV (Comcast 73 and Verizon 34), and YouTube.
At the event, BCPS Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year, and Assistant Principal of the Year will be announced. In addition, the gala will also celebrate a variety of other all-star school supporters, including a “Rising Star” Teacher of the Year, Supervisory Leader of the Year, Supporting Services Employee of the Year, Transportation Champion, AFSCME Employee of the Year, Volunteer Champion, and Business Partner Champion.
