2011 IWRF Americas Zone Qualification E-Newsletter

Though Team Canada fell short today against the USA -- going down 56-45 -- we have still qualified for the Paralympics and are London bound! Canada went down by 4 goals early in the fourth quarter and struggled to mount a comeback against the Americans. Though we kept it close within the second and third quarters, the USA pulled away and we were never able to recover.

The future of Team Canada, however, looks bright. Seventeen-year-old Zak Madell received an All Star award in his first major international tournament, as did Trevor Hirschfield.

Thanks for supporting Team Canada during the 2011 IWRF Americas Zone Qualification tournament. In the future, we hope to use this e-newsletter to keep our fans connected to Team Canada's progress as we strive for gold in 2012. Go Canada Go!

Trevor continues his All Star hot streak, having picked up one at the 2010 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships.

The full All Star lineup was:
Best Lowpointer: Trevor Hirschfield (CAN)
Best Mid-pointer: Alexandre Taniguchi (BRA)
Best High-Pointer: Zak Madell (CAN)
MVP: Chuck Aoki (USA)

Congratulations to Ryan Gaudet
Ryan Gaudet Congratulations are also in order to Saskatchewan's Ryan Gaudet, who was selected to referee at this tournament. Participating at this tournament is a major step in his progress to become an international referee and we're proud that he's representing Canada.
