This year’s Benefits Open Enrollment is
April 20-May 8
and is your opportunity to select medical, dental, vision and supplemental benefits for you and your family. This year, all benefits-eligible employees must take action to select or waive their benefits. Be prepared by reviewing your options early. The most up-to-date, accurate information on medical options, supplemental benefits and more can be found on

New this year:
As health care costs continue to increase across the nation,
DPS and our
Benefits Board
are working to find new ways to make benefits more affordable for our team members. This year, DPS is changing the way we pay for health insurance costs. Instead of paying set premiums to insurance carriers, we are moving from a “fully funded model” to a “self-funded model,” which means DPS will take on the monetary risk of paying for claims and, as a result, save on administrative costs, fees and money paid to our insurance carriers.
What does this change mean for you? Premiums will increase by an average of 4.4% this year, compared to an increase that would have been 11%. By moving to a self-funded model, we are saving nearly 7 percentage points on premium increases.

Attend the Reimagining Montbello Campus Community Meeting March 18
|

We have heard the voices of many in the Far Northeast Denver community who would like to explore a comprehensive high school option in Montbello. While no final decision has been made yet, our next steps include forming a working group that will weigh possible scenarios and help determine the future program and facility design.
Community members including DPS staff and alumni are encouraged to join the meeting on
March 18
from 5-7 p.m. in the Montbello campus library,
5000 Crown Boulevard.

Password Security: 12 is the Magic Number

Passwords provide essential protection for online accounts, and creating longer and varied passwords ensures extra security.
To protect DPS login information,
all district passwords must be a minimum of 12 characters in length
. In coming months, DoTS will send you an email notification if your DPS password does not meet requirements, along with instructions on how to change it.

“Fun is the name of science at
Montbello Career and Technical High School (
MCT). Hannah Spock is a ‘science geek.’ If you come to visit her class at MCT, you would instantly see how she makes science fun and engaging for her students. Hannah is always thinking about how to help make kids more inquisitive through fun activities. Last trimester, she started an aquaponics system. The students are proud of the veggies they've grown and are invested in the project. In addition, Hannah organized a fun activity for staff when her mom came in to teach yoga! Hannah sees learning as fun and attempts to incorporate it into every aspect of her work.”
