Supporting Our Essential Service Team Members
|
|
We are committed to Equity in DPS, and part of that means providing a livable wage and fair compensation to all of our educators. With that in mind, DPS is excited to announce that we're able to offer a wage increase to about 3,000 team members who provide essential services in our schools!
These increases will support custodians, food service workers, bus drivers and patrol officers
, as well as paraprofessionals
, who provide direct instructional support to our students.
We've heard from these team members, in exit interviews and our CollaboRATE survey, that pay and the limited opportunities for compensation growth in their roles has been a significant factor in their decision to leave DPS. We hope pay increases to these groups will drive more stability in our schools by decreasing turnover and improving our ability to attract and keep great people.
While we are excited to announce this compensation increase for these employee groups, we know this alone does not address our funding needs
, and so we continue to keep pressing our Colorado legislators to better fund our schools.

Pay Changes: Final Reminders about Summer Pay
|
|
Starting this summer, we're improving how our team members are paid and simplifying how most of our employees request and track time off.
With True Pay, our new time and pay system, all team members will receive two paychecks, one on the 7th and one on the 22nd of every month (or the weekday before if the 7th or 22nd are weekends or holidays). With our new system, you'll be paid 5-7 days after the pay period has ended. That's a shorter wait time, and it means you'll have a full month of pay by the 22nd of every month.
- Summer payroll calendars that show when you'll be paid in June, July, August and September.
- An FAQ with more details on why and how we're making this change.
- Presentations on changes related to True Pay.
- Contact information for the Employee Assistance Program for free help with budgeting, debt management, tax issues and other finance questions.
- Coming soon: Links to quick reference guides and other training materials. All team members will be notified when these resources are available.

Living Our DPS Honoree
Facility Manager, McKinley-Thatcher Elementary
"Every day, Michael Potter takes great pride in his interaction with the students at McKinley-Thatcher Elementary and always puts Students First. He has a unique way of teaching them the 'word of the day' by placing a word on a sticky note and putting it on the front of his head so all the students can see and interact with him as he teaches them the meaning of the word.
Recently he took a class on a tour of the mechanical systems at the school and taught them the safety aspects of working in a mechanical area. The students enjoyed learning about how their school mechanical systems work to provide a clean and comfortable environment for them to learn and be safe in. Often, Michael has former students stop by to tell him how much his caring attitude influenced them as they progressed through life. Michael is a truly caring DPS Facility Manager and exhibits our Shared Core Value of Students First every day. He is a true asset to the DPS team."
