Self-Care Supports for Team Members
Taking time to care for yourself is always important and can be essential during times of change. Resources and learning opportunities are available for team members to focus on self-care and well-being.

Programs and Workshops
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The EAP provides supports including confidential counseling, work-life solutions, legal support, financial information and more to all DPS team members. 

  • Well-being Resource Center: A comprehensive tool for team members that includes articles, podcasts, apps, books, videos, discounts and more to support your social, emotional, physical, spiritual and financial well-being. 

  • DPS Belong: Belong is a network of employee-built groups where team members with similar backgrounds, beliefs and experiences gather, celebrate and create community.

DPS Skills Classes
DPS Skills classes are 3-hour workshops focused on personal and professional development. Listed below are select Skills classes focused on change management and self-care. Team members can learn more, view all available classes and register on The Commons.

  • Micro-aggressions: March 6.
  • Leading with Emotional Intelligence: March 7 and April 2.
  • Radical Self Care: March 12, April 23 and May 21.
  • Navigating Change: March 19, April 17 and May 14.
  • Creative Conflict: April 30.

Event: Self-Care Social on March 20
Join Team DPS for a night of self-care. Hosted by DPS Belong, the Self-Care Social will feature interactive well-being activities focused on emotional, social, physical, financial and spiritual well-being. There is also time to learn more about different Belong groups and how to join!

We’re excited to share Superintendent Susana Cordova’s vision for the success of every student, sent Monday morning to all Team DPS and community. Read Susana’s letter, and the full entry plan here. In this plan, she sets her vision for what she will accomplish and the first important steps we will take on this journey. The plan includes information on Susana's personal values and core beliefs in equity, instructional excellence and collaborative teamwork.

Shawanda Buggs
Team Specialist, Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences
Equity and Collaboration
Through her role as a team specialist at Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences, Shawanda Buggs constantly exemplifies the Shared Core Values of Equity and Collaboration.

She created a schedule for her team that not only honors them as professionals when building their portion of the following week's lessons, but also honors the spirit of collaboration by coming together to create differentiated access points for all ELLs, SpEd and GT/HGT students.

Shawanda used her small group instruction expertise to lead a 3-5 week SGI PD and gave teachers the opportunity to graduate early to better focus on teachers who needed additional support. Shawanda constantly communicates with her families and created a grade-level and content-specific newsletter to ensure all sixth-grade families are ‘in the know.’ Because she knows not all families are on email, she takes the time to call families and host in-person meetings outside of regular parent teacher conferences.
