A DPS parent and student get ready for class at Escalante Biggs.
Thank a Parent - Nominate Them for the Family Leadership Award
At DPS, we know our parents' support is key to the success of our students, and Team DPS is lucky to have so many parents and family members going the extra mile in our school communities. If you work with or know a parent or family member in the DPS community who embodies one or more of our Shared Core Values while supporting our schools, show your appreciation by nominating them for the  Family Leadership Award. Honorees will be recognized at an upcoming Superintendent Parent Forum.

Check out other award opportunities at thecommons.dpsk12.org/nominate. All nominations are due March 24. If you have any questions, email  Our_DPSValues@dpsk12.org.

Spread the word: Share this nomination opportunity, as well as ways to recognize other outstanding members of Team DPS, with this  Night of Honor nomination flier.
Access Resources for Immigration Questions and Concerns
Last week, the DPS Board of Education approved the Safe and Welcoming School District resolution to make clear how we will support our students in light of recent local and national events surrounding immigration and refugees. To see copies of the resolution, an updated Immigration Rights FAQ and a one-page handout on school supports for students and families, please visit the Safe and Welcoming School District webpage. Materials are available in multiple languages to share with your team, students, families and community.

To support students and their families with immigration questions and concerns, we have a crisis team ready to deploy for counseling supports for families, parents and students. To request the team's support, contact Meredith Furtney or Liz Jagiello

To support you and your team if federal immigration officials show up at your school, the DPS legal team has created a staff memo outlining recommended preferred procedures. If you have questions, contact General Counsel Jerome Deherrera or call 720-423-3915.

If members of the media contact you, or if you need support with additional communications, please contact Director of Media Relations Will Jones at 720-448-3751 or Chief Communications Officer Nancy Mitchell at 303-478-4573.

Top 5 Callout: Favorite Dr. Seuss Character
March 2 is Read Across America Day, a national celebration designed to foster a love of reading among children and teens, and honor the master of making reading fun, Dr. Seuss, on his birthday. To get in the spirit, we want to hear which Dr. Seuss character is your favorite and what you love most about them. A fan of Sam I Am? Is Cindy Lou your favorite Who? Then there's Cat in the Hat -- what do you think about that? Don't be a Grinch -- submit to the Top 5 for a chance to win a prize!
HSA is the New 401(k)
Did you know health savings accounts, or HSAs, provide a great way to save for retirement? HSAs offer many of the same benefits as a 401(k) -- and more. Like a 401(k), HSAs allow you to set aside tax-free money for future expenses. They are portable; you can take them with you if you leave DPS, change benefit plans or retire. The money in your account is yours to keep, with no "use it or lose it" restrictions. HSA funds can even be invested, and you don't pay taxes on your gains.

One aspect that sets HSAs apart from 401(k) accounts is that they offer a triple tax advantage: contributions are tax free, investment earnings grow tax free and distributions for qualified medical expenses are tax free. To top it off, DPS contributes up to $750 a year to your HSA!

Whether you're just starting your career at DPS or nearing retirement, consider HSA accounts for retirement planning. Questions? Contact HR Connect.
