New Dimensions Public Charter School, based in Morganton, North Carolina, is making waves in Division B this year. With two brand-new coaches at the helm and a team full of fresh faces, they are embarking on an exciting journey into the world of Science Olympiad.
Despite being a young team, their spirit and dedication shine through. One of their most memorable moments so far has been the incredible support from parents, who have stepped up to help gather supplies and build resources. This strong sense of community has created an encouraging and collaborative environment that has made their Science Olympiad experience even more special.
What truly sets this team apart is their youth—more than half of their members are sixth graders. As they prepare for their upcoming regional tournament in Hickory, they are embracing every challenge with enthusiasm and determination. They hope to connect with veteran teams for guidance and mentorship, ensuring their young competitors grow into confident and skilled participants in the years to come.
Competing as a charter school, the team—affectionately known as the Lab Rats—is eager to prove that they belong among the best. Their journey has already come with valuable lessons. Their coaches took on this responsibility just days before the Coaches Conference, making for a whirlwind start to the season. The experience has taught them the importance of early preparation, and they’re already planning ahead to ensure a smoother start next year.
For now, their focus is on making the most of every practice. With dedicated after-school study sessions and hands-on building time, the students are honing their skills, organizing materials, and fine-tuning their strategies for competition day. Their commitment, resilience, and team spirit will surely make them a force to watch this season!
From the Coach perspective:
"We love the community aspect of this competition where the students, coaches, and at-home adults come together for the students to showcase their knowledge and abilities"
