A USA Team of seven is travelling to visit Jajja's Kids in Uganda during the first week of May for approximately a week. The team includes Executive Director Diane Reiner, all our Board Members- Chair Connie Frisbee Houde, Mary Kozlowski, Scott Reinhart, Steve Kozlowski, and volunteers Sherry Reinhart and Chelsea Reinhart.

Team members are deeply committed to Jajja's Kids and are participating at their own financial expense. They are extremely excited and looking forward to the trip and making contributions to Jajja's Kids.

The Team has many tasks and goals to accomplish

as a team and individually:

  • We will all be meeting and spending time with staff and the Kids to discuss how things are going, to provide support and to plan for the future.

  • Diane will be facilitating meetings attended by all Board Members and key African Staff partners with input from the Kids to strategically plan for the future.

  • Connie, Mary (Brunch Fundraiser Chair) and Diane will be gathering materials for the fundraiser being held on September 27 at Troy's Revolution Hall, including art by the Kids and merchandise such as African artwork, baskets, jewelry and figurines for sale at the event.

The fundraiser's theme "20 Years into Our Journey: From the Street to the University and Beyond," will emphasize both the organization's growth and the individual journeys of the children. The Kids will be invited to reflect on their journey through planned videos and their art work.

  • In addition to the videos, Diane and Connie will also be taking photos throughout the visit for use at September's event and for sharing with our supporters.
  • Thanks to our generous donors, we will be bringing laptop computers, mobile phones and backpacks for secondary and university students who need them for their studies and communication.

Thanks also to our Volunteer IT Specialist, Doug Williams
for facilitating purchase of the laptops and phones and preparing them for operation.

  • We will also be bringing beautiful quilts for use in recognizing a number of Jajja's Kids for special accomplishments.

    The quilts were donated by
Quilters United in Working Together- Q.U.I.L.T, Inc.. through the efforts by quilt member and Jajja's Kids volunteer Micki L Friedlander. Thank you, Quilters and Micki!

  • Sherry, a registered nurse, will be bringing needed medical supplies. She will also be offering blood pressure checks, CPR training and medical advice. Sherry will be touching base with the local medical clinic which provides health and medical support to Jajja's Kids..

  • Scott , a career educator, will be meeting with staff for input and evaluation of Kids quarterly progress reports which were developed by Scott in consultation with Team Africa.

  • Chelsea, an organic farmer, will be visiting Jajja's Kids farm and meeting with former Jajja Kid John (now graduated and serving as Jajja's Kids farm manager) to share her expertise.

  • Mary, a local artist, will be bringing art materials and will offer a workshop on painting. She will invite attendees to create art work for next September's event.

  • Steve, Jajja's Kids Sponsor Coordinator, will be bringing messages from sponsors for their Kids. He will also be consulting with staff on evaluating the program, including on communication and gift giving.
