Team USA Trip to Jajja's Kids in Uganda:

Productive and Enjoyable!

Video Below: Jajja's Kids Welcomes Team USA

Our USA Team of seven visited Jajja's Kids in Uganda during the first week of May.

The USA team included Executive Director Diane Reiner, all our Board Members-- Chair Connie Frisbee Houde, Mary Kozlowski, Scott Reinhart, Steve Kozlowski, and volunteers Sherry Reinhart and Chelsea Reinhart.

We were enthusiastically welcomed with drumming and dancing by Jajja's Kids and Team Africa. Kindness and gratitude were offered by Jajja's Kids throughout the visit and made members of the team feel part of the Jajja's Kids community.

The team delivered laptops, mobile phones, backpacks, and quilts, thanks to our donors' generosity. Kids and Team Africa greatly appreciate these gifts!

Our visit was both productive and enjoyable!

Planning for the Future

(above photos: Strategic Planning Meeting, Scott and Chelsea, Diane and Kayondo)

As Jajja's Kids are getting older and moving ahead in their educational studies, a primary reason for Team USA's visit was to begin strategic planning with Team Africa and the Kids for the future of Jajja's Kids.

Board members met separately with our young people and with Team Africa. Diane Reiner led the discussions with assistance from Scott Reinhart and Chelsea Reinhart.

Technological support was provided by Jajja Kid Technology Intern, Kayondo under the guidance IT Specialist Doug Williams.

In our discussions, everyone agreed that Jajja's Kids has been a tremendous success and should be continued and possibly even expanded in the future for the benefit of Uganda youth and the community.

Next steps for the Jajja's Kids U.S. Board are to discuss and outline an implementation plan that we will pursue further with Team Africa. We will keep our supporters updated as we move forward.

Future Sustainability

(above photo: Farmer John, Chelsea and visitors to the farm)

Strategic planning for Jajja's Kids includes prospective use of farmland owned by Jajja's Kids. The USA and Africa teams and several Kids visited the farm.

Jajja Kid John, who recently graduated from an Agricultural Studies college and has a passion for farming, is developing use of the farm both to provide produce for Jajja's Kids and as an income stream for the program.

John and Chelsea, who has expertise in organic farming, had lengthy discussions about possibilities for the future.

Medical Services

(above photos- Sherry with a patient & meeting with clinic staff, Sherry with recent nurse graduate Daphine, and Jajja Kid Aziz practicing CPR)

Team Member and Registered Nurse Sherry Reinhart offered her services in a number of ways. She donated medical supplies including bandages, gauzes, blood pressure devices, temperature gauges, over-the-counter medications, and more to the neighborhood medical clinic serving Jajja’s Kids.

At the clinic, she met with staff and offered assistance and recommendations to several patients.

At our Jajja’s Kids home, Sherry offered staff and Kids training in CPR and choking rescue including fun hands-on demos with individual participants.

Art Learning and Fun!

(above photos are Mary and Jajja's Kids having fun painting, plus their artistic output)

Mary, an excellent artist, brought art materials and offered a workshop on watercolor painting. She invited attendees to create art work for September 27's brunch fundraising event.

Jajja's Kids had a great time and demonstrated a lot of artistic talent! Some of their art work will be utilized in promotional materials, and paintings will be for sale at our September event.

The Jajja's Kids Community

The trip to Jajja's Kids in Uganda was a wonderful experience for members of Team USA. Members learned, supported, planned for the future and thoroughly enjoyed their visit. The welcoming and kindness of Team Africa and Jajja's Kids themselves made everyone feel as part of one family.

All Board members also serve as a sponsor for one of Jajja's Kids, and it was joyful for them to visit with and get to know their "Kid" in person.

Below are some final photos that reflect activities experienced and a few of the many joys in the visit.
