A Note from our Executive Director

June 25, 2020
Dear KIPP Baltimore supporters,
Last Thursday, we celebrated our
KIPP
Baltimore Pride of 2024 8th grade senior class
with a graduation ceremony we never could’ve imagined – a drive-through promotion ceremony at our school. Surrounded by teachers and families, our students marked an exciting milestone in their educational journey and officially became KIPP alumni. All of this amidst the backdrop of pain and anger from the deaths of Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and of the systemic racism that allowed for such violence to occur. We send our students out into a world that we know is not just, and we know an education does not keep you safe from these systems.
But, we send our KIPPsters into a world equipped with the knowledge and confidence that they can be part of making this a more just world. Even though they are not physically in our building anymore, they are still very much part of the KIPP Team and Family, and we will continue to support them in life after middle school as they journey through high school, college, and a choice-filled life. Once a KIPPster, always a KIPPster!
In partnership,
Marsha Reeves
Executive Director

At KIPP Baltimore, we named our commitment to standing with our Team and Family against oppression and racial injustice. As part of that commitment, in honor of Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day” and the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of the enslavement of Black people in the United States, we asked members of our Team and Family to participate in KIPP Baltimore’s Injustice Awareness Day. Our Team and Family, teachers, students, and families, rallied together to participate in the day of action.

The KIPP leadership team held a virtual Race & Equity Town Hall for our community in light of recent events. The town hall was an opportunity for all KIPP families, teachers, and staff to engage in a conversation around how we can collectively support our students and families and create next steps as we move forward.
