Board of Supervisors Supports Fire District Consolidation

At our August 8 meeting, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors voted to support the consolidation of three fire districts -- Rough & Ready Fire Protection District, Penn Valley Fire Protection District, and Nevada County Consolidated Fire District -- into one combined district.

The Board also approved the fire district chiefs’ request for up to $1 million in temporary gap funding to operate Rough & Ready Fire Station #59 while the reorganization effort is underway.

Consolidated Fire Chief Jason Robitaille said the consolidation will allow the fire districts to increase efficiency and eliminate redundancies. He assured the supervisors they will get a good return on their investment. “We want the county to realize we’re an investment and not a bill,” he said. READ MORE

Customer Service Standards for Internet Providers

The CPUC is seeking your input on whether the state’s existing internet service standards are meeting customers’ needs. However, the Cable Broadband Industry is arguing that that internet services should be excluded from any future rulemaking the CPUC does around customer service standards. Do you agree?

The issues that are being considered in this rulemaking include:

  • What types of customer services requirements should the Commission adopt?
  • What types of complaints from consumers should the Commission adjudicate?
  • How should the Commission adjudicate complaints from consumers?
  • What enforcement actions/penalties for violations should the Commission consider? For example, should consumers receive financial credits in their accounts in addition to penalties paid to the state as a part of the penalty structure?

If you’d like to see the public comments others are making or contribute your own to this rulemaking, you can do so on the CPUC's website.
